The wine is aged in 60% new oak, which is how the sample was made. It has a harmonious bouquet with brambly black fruit, melted tar and tobacco scents, not powerful but precise. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth texture, fine tannin, just a subtle savory note developing and merging nicely with the black fruit, hints of white pepper and cedar towards the poised finish that is quintessential Saint-Julien. There is an essence of drinkability about this Branaire-Ducru and I can imagine this being approachable after three to four years. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 95-97+/100 Punkte "There was no frost at Ducru-Beaucaillou in 2017 due to its proximity to the estuary. This barrel sample comes from the final blend, which was made in early 2018. Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot and sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2017 Ducru-Beaucaillou is intensely scented of blackcurrant cordial, blackberries and lavender with hints of crushed rocks, iron ore, rose hips and Provence herbs plus touches of wood smoke and sandalwood. Medium-bodied, very firm and grainy in the mouth, it possesses lovely freshness, lifting the intense flavors, finishing long and minerally. Sporting an incredible core of muscular mid-palate fruit, this wine should age incredibly." The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin, the oak nicely integrated, not quite as harmonious as the 2016 but then again, few 2017s are. There is a rigid structure to this Ducru Beaucaillou underneath the carapace of ripe black fruit with touches of tobacco and spice lingering on the aftertaste. Das Château Ducru-Beaucaillou verdankt seinen Namen diesen « beaux cailloux » ( schönen Kieseln ), den so genannten Gunzian-Kiesen, Quarzkieseln, die die vorzeitliche Gironde zu Beginn des Quartärs, wahrscheinlich vor fast zwei Millionen Jahren, mit sich führte. Der Ducru-Beaucaillou 2016 hat eine sehr dunkle violette Farbe und bietet ein ausgeprägtes und verführerisches Bouquet von gekochten Pflaumen, Brombeeren und Kirschkonfitüre mit Anklängen von Flieder, Mokka, exotischen Gewürzen und einem Hauch von Zedernholz. Am Gaumen ist er vollmundig, reichhaltig und üppig, mit Nuancen von schwarzen Früchten und Gewürzen, mit einer sehr festen und ziselierten Struktur, die in einer nicht enden wollenden Länge endet.- Shop: VINATIS

Da ist sie wieder, die Magie des Jahrgangs 2015. Authentizität in reinster Form, nicht vergleichbar mit anderen Weinen, vollkommen eigenständig, ein Monument von einem Wein! 95% Cabernet sprechen für sich, sehr klare Frucht, feinste Mineralität, Salzigkeit und Säure. Alles hervorragend abgestimmt, nichts aufreibendes, stressiges, einfach pure Perfektion. In welche Sphären will Bruno Borie denn noch mit seinem Ducru Beaucaillou aufsteigen?! Fantastisch, einer der Top 5 im Médoc 2015! (96-98 Punkte) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 97/100 Punkte Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Ducru-Beaucaillou is provocatively and profoundly scented of chocolate-covered cherries, fresh black currants, crushed blueberries and licorice with touches of cigar box, roses and violets plus hints of black pepper and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and sultry with tons of seductive layers and firm, wonderfully velvety tannins, it has a very long, multilayered finish. Trinkgenuss: 2023 bis 2048 Weinwisser (Rene Gabriel): 19/20 Punkte 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot. Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Noch nie war ein Ducru so süss bei der Primeurprobe, ein Korb voll Maulbeeren, Brombeeren und Cassis, füllig, schier opulent, zumindest komplex. Im Gaumen zieht sich diese ausufernde Frucht weiter, dann kommt die Adstringenz! Sie zeigt das immense Potential dieses Weines auf, er wirkt so dann streng und verlangend, gebündelter Druck im extrem langen Finale. Zweifellos ein grosser Wein. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Crus war die Ernte hier eher klein mit etwa 35 hl/ha. Er wird in 100% neuem Holz ausgebaut. Mit einem Ziel von 18 Monaten. Gehört zu den grossen Ducru´s. Und von solchen gab es in den letzten Jahren praktisch eine nahtlose Serie. Trinkgenuss: 2025 bis 2060 James Suckling: 97/100 Punkte Aromas of oyster shell, iron and currants. Hints of iodine. Full-bodied, very tight and focused. Love the finish of sandalwood, cinnamon, violets and lavender. Wonderful tannin texture. Linear and driven. Decanter: 96/100 Punkte Extraordinary blend of finesse and depth from 95% Cabernet. A wine with a taffeta texture that enhances the extreme purity and depth of fruit.
