War of Antichrist With the Church and Christian Civilization (eBook, PDF)
By the works of Sir Walter Scott and other writers. The land once evangelized by Columba and his bands of missionary saints, has besides an indescribable charm for a Catholic missionary. He went, therefore, with great pleasure to Scotland, and he cannot speak too highly or too thankfully of the kindness which the Venerable Archbishop of Glasgow, the Bishops and the Clergy he happened to meet with Showed him. But, with the exception of a Sunday sermon to oblige the good pastor of whatever locality he happened to pass through, it was his fixed intention not to speak publicly during his rather rapid progress through the country. It happened, however, that on coming to Edinburgh he found an Old and very dear friend and College companion in charge of the most populous Catholic district Of the metropolis, and in deference to the earnest solicitations of that friend, he departed from his resolution and gave during the few days his stay lasted, first, a lecture on Secret Societies for the benefit Of a large and flourishing Catholic Association for men and secondly, as a sequel to that, a lecture on the Spoliation of the Propaganda.- Shop: buecher

Armed Humanitarians: The Rise of the Nation Builders , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 732min
In May 2003, President George W. Bush declared victory in Iraq. But while we won the war, we catastrophically lost the peace. Our failure prompted a fundamental change in our foreign policy. Confronted with theshortcomings of "shock and awe", the U.S. military shifted its focus to"stability operations": counterinsurgency and the rebuilding of failed states. In less than a decade, foreign assistance has become militarized; humanitarianism has been armed. Combining recent history and firsthand reporting, Armed Humanitarians traces how the concepts of nation-building came into vogue, and how, evangelized through think tanks, government seminars, and the press, this new doctrine took root inside the Pentagon and the State Department. Following this extraordinary experiment in armed social work as it plays out from Afghanistan and Iraq to Africa and Haiti, Nathan Hodge exposes the difficulties of translating these ambitious new theories into action. Ultimately seeing this new era in foreign relations as a noble but flawed experiment, he shows how armed humanitarianism strains our resources, deepens our reliance on outsourcing and private contractors, and leads to perceptions of a new imperialism, arguably a major factor in any number of new conflicts around the world. As we attempt to build nations, we may in fact be weakening our own. Nathan Hodge is a Washington, D.C.-based writer who specializes in defense and national security. He has reported from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, and a number of other countries in the Middle East and former Soviet Union. He is the author, with Sharon Weinberger, of A Nuclear Family Vacation, and his work has appeared in Slate, the Financial Times, Foreign Policy, and many other newspapers and magazines. ungekürzt. Forming Intentional Disciples: The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 440min
How can we transmit a living, personal Catholic faith to future generations? By coming to know Jesus Christ, and following him as his disciples. These are times of immense challenge and immense opportunity for the Catholic Church. Consider these statistics for the United States: Only 30 percent of Americans who were raised Catholic are still practicing Fully 10 percent of all adults in America are ex-Catholics The number of marriages celebrated in the Church decreased dramatically, by nearly 60 percent, between 1972 and 2010 Only 60 percent of Catholics believe in a personal God If the Church is to reverse these trends, the evangelizers must first be evangelized - in other words, Catholics-in-the-pew must make a conscious choice to know and follow Jesus before they can draw others to him. This work of discipleship lies at the heart of Forming Intentional Disciples, a guide designed to help Church leaders, parish staff, and all Catholics transform parish life from within. Drawing upon her 15 years of experience with the Catherine of Siena Institute, Sherry Weddell leads listeners through steps that will help Catholics enter more deeply into a relationship with God and the river of apostolic creativity, charisms, and vocation that flow from that relationship for the sake of the Church and the world. Learn about the five thresholds of postmodern conversion; how to open a conversation about faith and belief; how to ask thought-provoking questions and establish an atmosphere of trust, when to tell the great story of Jesus; how to help someone respond to God's call to intentional discipleship; and much more. And be prepared for conversion because when life at the parish level changes, the life of the whole Church will change. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Nan McNamara. Series of Shorter Articles as Seen Church of England Newspaper, London , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 79min
Read a number of shorter, interesting pieces including one on Rowan Williams and meeting the Pope with Benedictine Camaldolese monks, and a short essay on Elvis Presley singing Gospels. Read also about Lewis Lapham, and even a book review on Christ's last words - all by Peter Menkin. Using the art of the homily, Archbishop Rowan Williams spoke to the ecumenical relationship between the Anglican Communion (Episcopal Church in USA), and the Roman Catholic Church, citing history. For a thousand years the Camaldoli hermitage and its monks have been praying and living with the presence of the Lord. Here is something I wonder: Though Elvis is not a spiritual or religious leader, but more a man who as a child learned guitar in the Pentecostal, Assembly of God Church from his pastor, his sincerity of offering his Gospel recordings to a large, large audience, has probably Evangelized many people, if not entertained with his Rock n' Roll manner of singing for thousands and thousands through the years. No doubt Elvis is more than sympathetic to the Gospel music he sings in this set, though some will find the limitation of his play and range as a singer one that hampers a full performance of some greater voices. Nonetheless, Elvis is a phenomenon of 20th Century music, and this popular rendition that he is identified with does seek the listener in an effective embrace. At the least, it is an entertainment and a lot of fun. And after all, it really rocks. The renewed Episcopal Church book of Holy Women Holy Men: Celebrating the Saints has almost 800 pages. This book is used in worship. In my own Parish (Episcopal) in San Francisco's Bay Area we use the work, for it is authorized in Dioceses for the next three years by General Convention, 2012 ungekürzt. Language: English.
