Dice Mircea Eliade que la misión esencial del laberinto es defender el centro, es decir, el acceso iniciático a la sacralidad. Laberinto de silencios es una pieza concebida como un encargo para celebrar el décimo aniversario de la Logia masónica francófona perteneciente a la Gran Logia de España, Voltaire nº 127. Conocedor del mundo esotérico, Torres plantea un laberinto iniciático de silencios sonoros cuya dirección aparente parece mutar una vez apenas enunciada. Sonidos aislados, arabescos cristalinos, esbozos de melodías, cantos clamorosos y un estremecedor canto de amor final conforman un arcano musical con numerosas sorpresas para los conocedores del simbolismo numérico. Inspiradas en los arcos ojivales de la catedral de Notre Dame de París, las cuatro Ogives (1886) de un joven Satie están impregnadas de un peculiar misticismo medieval fruto de su interés por el estudio del canto gregoriano. Severas de estilo y de estructura idéntica, como si se tratara de la misma pieza vista desde cuatro ángulos distintos, estas Ogives son una suerte de paráfrasis sobre el estilo antifonal del canto litúrgico: Se presenta un sencillo canto llano y a continuación se repite tres veces en bloques de acordes amplios que varían de dinámica a modo de columnas que soportaran un resonante edificio sonoro. Unos años más tarde, las inclinaciones místicas y esotéricas de Erik Satie le llevarían a convertirse en adepto de la "Orden Rosacruz Católica del templo y del Grial" fundada por el extravagante escritor y ocultista Joséphin Péladan. Como compositor oficial de la Orden, Satie escribió una serie de obras de inspiración rosacruz entre las que destacan las tres Sonneries de la Rose-Croix. Se trata de fanfarrias concebidas para ser interpretadas en las ceremonias de la Orden cuyas hipnóticas melodías y cadenas de acordes guardan en su incesante repetición el secreto del simbolismo numérico de la sección áurea o proporción divina, como así lo ha demostrado el estudioso de Satie, Alan Gillmor. Los giros armónicos de las triadas de Satie evocan sin duda la música del también rosacruz, médico, alquimista y consejero del Emperador Rodolfo II, Michael Maier. En su extraordinario e inclasificable libro Atalanta Fugiens (La fuga de Atalanta), Maier asigna una fuga (en realidad se trata de un canon sobre un cantus firmus) a cada uno de los cincuenta emblemas alquímicos acompañados de un poema y un comentario. La música ilustra de manera simbólica tanto el mito recurrente de Atalanta e Hipómenes como los enunciados de cada uno de los emblemas, mediante complejos procedimientos contrapuntísticos. Música con ecos de Dufay o Machaut cuya textura y giros recuerdan más a la música medieval que a la renacentista y que funciona a modo de arquitectura mágica que estructura el inaprensible mundo de los arquetipos simbólicos. La música como ritual estructurador de modos de conocimiento elevado es la base del pensamiento musical de la compositora hispano-germana María de Alvear. Tras años de búsqueda personal y de estudio de las tradiciones chamánicas de los pueblos cheroqui y tuscarora, la música de María emerge extraña y seductora de un mundo absolutamente personal donde la música no es ya más que una prolongación natural, o quizás la misma esencia, de una manera iniciática de entender el mundo. Oscuridad pura es una suerte de encantamiento sobre la naturaleza de la más profunda oscuridad de cuyo seno siempre nace la luz que la complementa. Oscuridad positiva, liberadora y generadora de vida. Oscuridad femenina. En esta partitura que ha sido escrita para celebrar la misma ocasión que la de JesúsTorres, podemos encontrar indicaciones tan reveladoras como limpia, profunda, amante, vital, llena de luz... En la partitura reza una dedicatoria: "a vosotros", a aquellos, se entiende, que forman parte de la cadena áurea de conocimiento. Uno de esos eslabones de esa cadena es sin duda el filósofo hermético y mago renacentista Giordano Bruno, cuya obra ha sido asiduamente visitada por el compositor Mauricio Sotelo como fuente de inspiración musical. En Sub Rosa, pieza que toma el título del disco para el que ha sido compuesta, Sotelo convierte el piano en una enorme fuente de resonancia que emana del enigmático espectro armónico de lo que él denomina "acorde lunar". De este magma vibratorio brotan complejas escalas ascendentes en acordes cuya velocidad aumenta paulatinamente hasta disolverse en la nada. Cada escala es un intento truncado de transcender la materia primordial para elevarse hacia una realidad superior. Momentos iniciales cuya suma conforman una espiral secreta. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart vivió con gran fervor y compromiso su pertenencia a la Masonería. Además de las numerosas obras explícitamente masónicas que escribió para ser interpretadas en Logia, la influencia del Arte Real es palpable en muchas de sus obras de concierto. Tal es el caso de la conocida Fantasía K. 475 escrita en mayo de 1785 tan solo un mes después de haber sido elevado a Maestro Masón en la Logia Zur Wohltätigkeit (La Beneficencia) y que fue probablemente interpretada por el propio Mozart en un concierto benéfico para una Logia vienesa.
