Found in the Rain
Found in the Rain is a recording of twelve songs without words, composed by clarinettist Helen Habershon. Helen is passionate about composing and this recording, her first release, finds her collaborating with world-renowned pianist John Lenehan. Helen herself comments: "When I write, the pieces often seem to unfold, like a story teller telling a tale. Each note seems to find it's place and flow quite naturally into a predestined tapestry. I feel that nature holds many, if not all, the answers and most of my pieces in this group reflect this in some way." An acclaimed performer, The Daily Telegraph, noted her "stylish and technically assured account..... immediately established a rapport with the audience" The New York Times stated that "Helen and her twin sister Cathrine (The Saunders Twins) played the work's solo lines with compelling unity of purpose" Helen Habershon (née Saunders) studied at the Royal College of Music with Sidney Fell and Gervase de Peyer and at the age of 22 was appointed Principle Clarinet of the Gulbenkian Orchestra. She has gone on to enjoy an international career giving recitals in leading concert venues at home and abroad and appearing on Radio and TV. ?More recently Helen, with her twin sister Cathrine, has performed a double concerto with the New York Chamber Symphony Orchestra under Gerard Schwarz in the Lincoln Centre receiving much acclaim in the New York Times. .Alongside her clarinet playing, Helen has always had a passion for composing music and this recording includes twelve of her short piano works composed between 2004 and 2009. Helen lives in Somerset with her family and has drawn her inspiration from the sea, the moors and the countryside of South West England. ? John Lenehan Praised by the New York Times for his 'great flair and virtuosity' and the London Times for 'a masterly recital', John Lenehan's performances and recordings as soloist and accompanist have been acclaimed throughout the world. In a performing career spanning more than twenty-five years, he has collaborated with many leading instrumentalists and is recognised as one of the leading accompanists and chamber musicians of today. John has made more than sixty CDs - most recently three discs for Sony of minimalist piano works and John Ireland's piano music (the third volume of a complete edition on Naxos). Other solo recordings include a disc of Erik Satie and a Gramophone award-winning recording for Naxos (with the Ulster Orchestra) of Michael Nyman's Piano Concerto. Recent performances have included Mozart and Shostakovich concerti with the renowned Sinfonia Varsovia at the Evian Festival and Beethoven with the Symphony Orchestra of India in Mumbai. Two other recordings have been released in 2009 - sonata discs with Emma Johnson (Naxos) and Tasmin Little (BIS).- Shop: odax
