Douglas MacArthur is best remembered for his adaptability, a quality which hoisted him to his greatest accomplishments. Adaptability now reigns as the most indispensable trait for high military leadership in this era of technological leaps, which guarantee radical changes in the nature of war during the span of an ordinary career. No American figure better exemplifies this trait than the man who was commissioned before the Wright Brothers' first flight but became a keen exponent of an entirely new dimension in warfare. MacArthur was also in charge of the U.S. occupation of Japan, the most successful occupation in history. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tom Weiner. Just as I turned to leave the desk, I almost fainted at the sight of my boss Robert who stood there silently. Had he been there the whole time watching me? My pencil skirt had been hoisted higher up exposing my naked skin just above my stockings. Worse was the fact that my screen was open with a girl bent over doggy style and it was quite clear I was enjoying every minute of it. I quickly tried to quit the browser but my efforts to hide it ran futile. I ended up standing there feeling guilty and horny at the same time. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Rachel Thorn. These days, he's retreated to rural Ohio, where he lazes around an abandoned church, playing the organ and dreading the taste of the corn-fed locals. One night, a vampire hunter breaks into his sanctum bearing worrying news: another of Kevin's kind has concocted a plot to turn the whole world into a hell for living and undead alike. The hunter proposes an alliance to destroy this rogue vampire, but Kevin suspects his would-be ally has at least one secret he isn't telling. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Will Madden. Back to Aunt Anna's where everything was quiet and peaceful, except for the MI6 agents chasing him halfway around the globe, ghosting his every move, and blowing up Matt's Jag! From the book:"I don't know who was most excited that morning when the three of us hoisted packs on our backs and started off down the trail. Just before we disappeared from view of our yard, I turned for one more wave. You woulda thought we were marching off to war or something. I even saw Aunt Lou blow her nose on her white hankie. They all looked glad and sad at the same time, happy we were doing something we really wanted to do, anxious that everything would go all right, and a bit sad we were growing up."On the brink of manhood, Josh was facing important questions about life, about love, about himself. "I sure was having a time of it trying to sort out all these different ideas and feelings¿maybe I should just go fishing! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Marguerite Gavin. In a fit of idealism, Ed Boland left a 20-year career as a nonprofit executive to teach in a tough New York City public high school. But his hopes quickly collided headlong with the appalling reality of his students' lives and a hobbled education system unable to help them: Freddy runs a drug ring for his incarcerated brother; Nee-cole is homeschooled on the subway by her brilliant homeless mother; and Byron's Ivy League dream is dashed because he is undocumented. In the end, Boland isn't hoisted on his students' shoulders, and no one passes AP anything. This is no urban fairy tale of at-risk kids saved by a Hollywood hero but a searing indictment of schools that claim to be progressive but still fail their students. Told with compassion, humor, and a keen eye, Boland's story is sure to ignite debate about the future of American education and attempts to reform it. ungekürzt. Language: English. Young Germans marched through Haifa shouting "Heil Hitler!" and Swastika flags were hoisted at the German consulates in Mandatory Palestine. It was in November 1931 when a non-Jewish German made the initial contact with Nazi officials in Germany that led to the establishment of a miniature Third Reich with local NS groups, Hitler Youth program, and associations for women, teachers, and others in Palestine. Approximately 33% of all Palestine-Germans (Palästina-Deutsche) participated in the NS movement. Until today no extensive research written in English has been done on this bizarre "footnote" in history. While previous publications in German mainly concentrated on the members of the Temple Society, this work includes Protestant and Catholic Germans as well. It focuses on the relationship of Palästina-Deutsche with local Arabs and Jews. It covers the period of 1933 to 1948 as well as the years between the establishing of the State of Israel and the departure of the last group of Germans in 1950. At the end of the book, the reader will find a list with more than seven hundred names of those who joined the NS groups.
