Forgotten Pleasures
Natalie Findlay, 25, könnte man in denselben Topf mit PJ Harvey oder Alison Mosshart von The Kills werfen, denn der kratzige Klang ihrer Stimme birgt ebenfalls etwas Freches und Neckisches in sich. Ihr erstes Album "Forgotten Pleasures" verkörpert ihre innere Welt. Trotz starker Kontraste wird diese Welt durch 13 Songs zum Ausdruck gebracht. Das karge melancholische Piano in "Sunday Morning In The Afternoon" reibt an dem groben Text von "Electric Bones". Dann machen wir eine Reise zurück in die 80er mit dem mitreißenden "Waste My Time", welches den Nachthimmel mit blitzartigen Synths violett und weiß erleuchten lässt, bevor wir weiter in einem mehr beschaulicheren "Monomania" landen, eine Art heidnisches Gebet, dessen Wurzeln im Minimal Blues liegen.Mit "On&Off" schmettert die junge Musikerin filmischen 50s Rock Vibe gegen den reißenden Garage Rock. Unbekümmert und zerbrechlich zugleich wird Findlay in "Junk Food" mehr denn je zum Riot Grrrl und hebt sich vom tiefgründigen, nahezu sirenenartigen "Forgotten Pleasures" ab. Im Titelsong erinnert sie sich an ihre dunkelsten Tage und heilt die Wunden der Vergangenheit, welche ihr letztlich zu einem stärkeren Selbst verhalfen. In ihrem Album flackern ihre Indie Rock Einflüsse Beck, Tame Impala, The Velvet Underground auf, jedoch nimmt sie ihre Hörer durch ihr eigenes Verständnis der Musik-Mythologie ein und macht sie so zu ihrer eigenen. Auf ihrem Debütalbum wird Findlay von Jules Apollinaire (ebenfalls Co-Produzent) am Keyboard, Bass und Gitarre, Ben Storm ebenfalls an der Gitarre und Schlagzeugerin Christina Lamas begleitet. Sie weiß ihr Umfeld gut auszuwählen. Um "St.Elmos Fire" zu komponieren, arbeitet sie mit Carl Barat von den Libertines zusammen und holt die Produzenten Jake Gosling (The Libertines, Ed Sheeran), Samy Osta (Woman, Fire Chatteron, Rover!) und Flood (Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins) ebenfalls mit ins Boot. Diese Mischung hilft Findlay's komplexe Persönlichkeit aufzuzeigen, bringt Licht in deren gegensätzliche Landschaft und Harmonie und Unordnung vereinen sich in einem wunderschönen Chaos. Das Resultat ist ein Album auf dem der männlich dominierten Rocksound der Vergangenheit mit dem unzähmbaren Geist eines plötzlich präsenten jungen Mädchens verschmilzt.- Shop: odax
