The Whatnot , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 515min
Oh, the Sly King, the Sly King, in his towers of ash and wind. Pikey Thomas doesn't know how or why he can see the changeling girl. But there she is. Not in the cold, muddy London neighborhood where Pikey lives. Instead, she's walking through the trees and snow of the enchanted Old Country or, later, racing through an opulent hall. She's pale and small, and she has branches growing out of her head. Her name is Henrietta Kettle. Pikey's vision, it turns out, is worth something. Worth something to Hettie's brother - a brave adventurer named Bartholomew Kettle. Worth something to the nobleman who protects him. And Pikey is not above bartering - Pikey will do almost anything to escape his past; he'll do almost anything for a life worth living. The faeries - save for a mysterious sylph and a mischievous cobble faery or two - have been chased out of London. They've all gone north. The army is heading north, too. So Pikey and Bartholomew follow, collecting information, piecing together clues, searching for the doorway that will lead them to Hettie. The Whatnot is the enthralling, surprising, and unforgettable companion to Stefan Bachmann's internationally best-selling debut novel The Peculiar. ungekürzt. Language: English. Dish It Up
Los Albertos are a six-piece ensemble of trilby adorned ska-dance protagonists who've been transmitting their hi-energy melodies to the nation since their formation in 2002. Christened by the barmaid at their debut gig, their fistful of grinning 2-tone skank with a twist of Santana has drawn attention from far beyond the pebbled beaches of their hometown Brighton, leading to regular appearances at Glastonbury and Beautiful Days festivals. Founder members Nic Tribe (Bass) and Tom Livingstone (Trumpet) formed the original line-up with Tim Herman (Alto Sax), Mark Crawford (Guitar) and Martin Andrews powering the percussion. After establishing a large and loyal local following on the Brighton circuit, Los Albertos released their first album, Los Bop, in 2004, containing floor stomping numbers Cheeky Rascal, Bossman, and Mr Chip, blueprints for their brass powered seaside ska sonics. A funked up version of the unmistakeable Grange Hill theme tune, and some soaring sax harmonies on Bei mir bist du schon, payed homage to the bands jazz and funk influences. Razor sharp compositions aside though, the band didn't want you to think they took life too seriously, hence Los Bop contained (arguably) their most bonkers song title to date: Pikey Killed My Goldfish. 2005 saw the departure of founder member Tom Livingstone. Des Crawley, previously the trumpet player with respected band Tragic Roundabout stepped into breach, to add a little swing to that Los Albertos bounce. With Chez Harper-Grimble, previously of 12 Stone Toddler and former jazz student at Chichester College, joining on Tenor sax, the band's sound was complete. Now with stereo saxophony, the band set about recording their second album Information Overload, released in 2006 with tales of festival drunkenness, psychedelic experiences at dental surgeries and calling in sick. 2006 and 2007 saw two UK tours, a four week Italian tour, plentiful festival appearances including Glastonbury and Beautiful days, headline slots at Brighton Fringe, Bath Fringe and Secret Garden, in addition to a residency at Brighton's Joogleberry. 2008 saw over 130 appearances, including as support act for the Buzzcocks, as the band continued to cement their reputation for awesome live shows fused with cheeky upbeat tomfoolery. Released through their own label, Chief Recordings, it is their biggest, bounciest, ass-shakingly awesome album to date. All but one track was produced and engineered by Al Scott - best known for also producing the Levellers' seminal 90s No 1 album Zeitgeist. The new album demonstrates that the band are not afraid to develop their sound further, with tracks such as Phase resonating a rockier edge than previous compositions, and the laid back acoustic sound achieved on M4. The Alberts, as they are also known love their hometown, continuing to play regularly at Brighton venues despite their national commitments. They also sponsor a Sussex Sunday league football team who has, in return, named itself after the band. The band all contribute both musically and lyrically, and their ethos can perhaps be best summarized by Guitar player Mark: 'It's impossible to have a band practice that doesn't turn into a social. We have a practice on Tuesday, and call in sick on the Wednesday...' Los Albertos look forward to a busy summer of gigs and live performances. Confirmed festival appearances include Brighton Fringe Festival, Glade, Endorset and Beachdown with many more to be announced soon.- Shop: odax
