Bergmann, author of Excelsior, You Fathead! The Art and Enigma of Jean Shepherd. Humorist Jean Shepherd (1921-1999), creator/narrator of the holiday movie favorite A Christmas Story, and author of numerous other works of fiction and television, had a long and stellar career on radio and was heard most days during the period of 1955-1977 on WOR radio in New York, a clear-channel station heard along the Eastern seaboard and points west. Shepherd’s radio work was both unique and transitional in the development of today’s talk radio. Shepherd could talk, and talk he did, touching his listeners intimately as if speaking to an audience of one. Shepherd was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2005. The radio programs in this collection, long lost and forgotten, were created in the mid 1960’s by Shepherd for radio and television syndicator Hartwest Productions in the format heard on Shepherd’s WOR shows of the day, right down to his familiar Bahn Frei theme music. No good deed goes unpunished in the Whisky Business cozy mystery series as distillery owner Abigail Logan uncovers dark secrets - and murder - at a local charity.  Photojournalist Abi Logan is finally ready to put her hectic career on hold and set down roots in the heart of the Scottish countryside. Studying the business and art of distilling whisky at Abbey Glen and volunteering at the Shepherd’s Rest women’s shelter in her spare time seem a surefire way to find the peace and stability she craves. It’s also the logical way to take her mind off her personal life. Abi’s business partner, Grant MacEwan, is facing a career-threatening disability, and as much as Abi longs to be there for him, he seems to prefer the company of a rival.  But as Abi becomes more involved with Shepherd’s Rest, she discovers that their refuge is elusive. When the shelter is rocked by a murder/suicide, Abi is outraged by the police’s lack of attention to these already marginalized women. Increasingly confident in her own skills as an investigator, Abi steps in to find out what the police will not: Who left one young woman dead and another missing. But when more deadly deeds come to light, Abi must race to unravel the connections between the shelter’s benefactors and the women they have pledged to protect - and expose the killer before he strikes again. ungekürzt. What do you do when you love your farm...but it doesn’t love you? After 15 years of farming, Catherine Friend is tired. After all, while shepherding is one of the oldest professions, it’s not getting any easier. The number of sheep in America has fallen by 90 percent in the last 90 years. But just as Catherine thinks it’s time to hang up her shepherd’s crook, she discovers that sheep might be too valuable to give up. What ensues is a funny, thoughtful romp through the history of our woolly friends, why small farms are important, and how each one of us - and the planet - would benefit from being very sheepish, indeed. ungekürzt. The Bible records only a few verses describing what occurred during the 40 days between Jesus’ resurrection on Easter and his return to heaven. The 40 Days: A Novel tells the story of a first-century Hebrew shepherd and his son, who find themselves in the presence of Jesus during that 40-day period after their flock becomes scattered during the cataclysmic events of Good Friday. Over the course of the 40 days, Jesus patiently answers the shepherd’s questions while teaching him about the purpose of his earthly ministry and what he accomplished for all people through God’s love. The 40 Days: A Novel uses Scripture in the framework of a story to make the Good News understandable to those unfamiliar with Jesus and the Bible while offering a new faith-strengthening perspective to longtime believers. Listen to The 40 Days: A Novel and learn for the first time, or understand further, who this Jesus is.  ungekürzt.
