One cursed queen. Three dragons. And a formidable fae demigod. A reverse harem with a dark fairy tale twist and an epic flair! My name is Daisy. I've been cursed to serve a bad-tempered elemental in my beastly form for centuries. There's only one way to lift the curse: a kiss from three true loves. To garner even one is nearly impossible. How am I going to get three? Then three gorgeous-as-sin, yet clueless dragon princes stumble into my lair. Only they do not come to kiss me. They come to slay me without knowing who I really am. Unless they cut the three heads of the Furies - my heads - or make the Fury Queen fall in love with them, they'll never shift back to dragons. Not surprisingly, the princes all choose what they think is the easiest - to behead the beasts. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Melissa Schwairy. Gruesome Quad-Cities: Murder, Madness, and the Macabre Along the Mississippi , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 224min
Gruesome Quad-Cities is a collection of true-life stories, most of them rescued from old newspaper accounts published over 100 years ago. Only a few of the events in this audiobook have ever made it into print, except, maybe, in musky-old county histories. Even then, they are lucky to rate a paragraph.Listen to them now, if you dare!Included inside:Albert Kling threatened to kill his wife and behead his seven children if she didn’t prostitute herself to support him. After he beat her nearly to death, Mrs. Kling told the authorities that she loved him “more than life".Edwin Cochran asked Davenport barber John Hassam for a job. When Hassam laughed at him, he returned with a Savage automatic revolver and unloaded five shots into the barber. And don’t forget Henry Bastian. He murdered nine people on his Milan “murder farm” rather than pay them.Of course, there’s more, but you get the idea. Gruesome Quad-Cities covers 16 brutal murders that occurred in Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, Bettendorf, Silvis, Muscatine, and more between 1867 and 1920.This is book six in the Gruesome Series. ungekürzt. So This Is Ever After (eBook, ePUB)
Carry On meets Arthurian legend in this funny, subversive young adult fantasy about what happens after the chosen one wins the kingdom and has to get married to keep it…and to stay alive. Arek hadn't thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he's finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don't come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next. As a temporary safeguard, Arek's best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she's dead. Now Arek is stuck as king, a role that comes with a magical catch: choose a spouse by your eighteenth birthday, or wither away into nothing. With his eighteenth birthday only three months away, and only Matt in on the secret, Arek embarks on a desperate bid to find a spouse to save his lifestarting with his quest companions. But his attempts at wooing his friends go painfully and hilariously wrong…until he discovers that love might have been in front of him all along.- Shop: buecher

The Scoreless Thai: An Evan Tanner Novel , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 340min
Presenting Evan Tanner - the first series character created by Lawrence Block, best-selling author of A Walk Among the Tombstones.... Ever since a shred of shrapnel did a number on his brain's sleep center, Even Tanner has been awake 24/7. This gives him more time than your average underachiever. Time to learn the world's languages (he's fluent in Basque, but has trouble with Chinese). Time to embrace the world's lost causes and irredentist movements (The Flat Earth Society, the League for the Restoration of Cilician Armenia, the Society of the Left Hand). Time to write term papers theses for students with more money than knowledge. And, most important, time to do his dreaming while he's wide awake. When his girlfriend, T'pani "Tuppence" Ngawa, disappears on a jazz tour of Thailand, Tanner flies to Bangkok, slips his CIA escort, and rushes to the rescue-only to wind up caged by bandits, who plan to behead him at daybreak. He enlists a young and sexually inexperienced Thai, Dhang, with the promise that he'll get him laid. Their escape route ultimately leads to North Vietnam-and, eventually, into the DMZ. Oh, you don't really expect a summary of a Tanner adventure to make sense, do you? It's a wild ride, partly by bullock cart, and no one but Tanner could bring it off.... ungekürzt. Language: English. Kill Zone: A Sniper Novel , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 654min
An American general is captured by Islamic extremists in the Middle East. They threaten to behead him within days. One strange fact: Moments before he is rendered unconscious during the attack, the general notices that his unseen captors speak American English. What's going on? Gunnery Sergeant Kyle Swanson, a top level marine sniper, is vacationing on a boat in the Mediterranean when he receives orders to mount a top-secret mission to rescue the general. But as he and his men prepare to land in the Iraqi desert, they immediately come under ferocious attack, and Swanson is the only man left alive. How did the enemy know details of a mission known only to a few top government officials? Swanson takes off across the desert alone to find the captured general and realizes he is fighting a particularly ruthless and dangerous enemy: American mercenaries working for a very high-level group of American officials with ties to the White House itself, part of a clandestine conspiracy whose hidden agenda is nothing less than total control of the American military. Their sworn enemy is the captured general whose fate now rests in Sniper Swanson's hands. The General Prologue and The Physician's Tale , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 138min
The Canterbury Tales, written near the end of Chaucer's life and hence towards the close of the 14th century, is perhaps the greatest English literary work of the Middle Ages: Yet it speaks to us today with almost undimmed clarity and relevance. How do we know what Chaucer's English sounded like? The simplest way for the present reader to learn what Chaucer's pronunciation sounded like is to listen to Richard Bebb's superb reading of the current recording of The General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales. The knowledge it represents has been built up by the work of many scholars over centuries, which is now available in many competent studies and editions of Chaucer's poems. The Physician's Tale is in origin a primitive folk tale about an "honor killing" that Chaucer found in Livy and elsewhere and enhanced. The wicked judge Apius wishes to abduct and rape the beautiful and virtuous Virginia, aged 14. Her father cannot save her. Rather than be dishonored, she allows him, to his utter grief, to behead her. But the people rise up against the cruel and wicked judge so that he is banished and his subordinates hanged. The rather strange moral drawn is that your sin will always find you out. Presented in Middle English and in modern verse translation. PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio. ungekürzt. Language: English.
