    Paul Dykstra is a Canadian born and trained pianist with concert and performance credits all over North America. He presently resides in New Hampshire, and has played solo and duo piano concerts in Canada, New England, St. Louis, California, Trinidad, Florida, and New York City, to name a few. He has also been involved with diverse projects such as NYC Living Arts Production of 'Porgy and Bess' on tour, keyboard for disco band Tavares in Atlantic City, and classical variety and chamber music concerts featuring new music and fine American and Canadian Artists. Paul studied at the University of Alberta under Helmut Brauss (a pupil of Edwin Fischer) and in sessions with Anton Kuerti, Gyorgy Sebok, Robin Wood and many others. Mr. Dykstra brings his diverse musical talents to bear upon the program IVORY WINTER which incorporates Great Classical Piano Music for your Inner Season, and features masterpieces by Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and NH composer Roger Rudenstein. Paul can also be heard on a disc of Rudenstein's music entitled 'State of the Union' where he has recorded the 7th Piano Sonata in it's entirety and also the Clarinet and Piano Sonata with Richard Stoltzman on clarinet. Further collaborations between these two artists are pending in 2008, including a recording in Slovakia of Rudenstein's 'Blues for New Orleans' for Clarinet, Piano, and orchestra.

    Among the elite of Canadian pianists, Bruce Vogt is a unique and dynamic performer. He appears regularly in concert within Canada, but has also inspired audiences in England, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, China, and Japan. Born in Southern Ontario, Bruce completed his initial musical studies with Damjana Bratuz and Anton Kuerti. Later he studied in the United States, England, Switzerland, and Italy, working with a number of celebrated musicians including Gyorgy Sebok, Louis Kentner, Fou Ts'Ong, and Dario de Rosa. Bruce Vogt's repertoire is extremely diverse, encompassing music from the sixteenth century to the present. He has consistently championed the music of contemporary composers, and has commissioned and premiered a number of new works by such Canadian luminaries as Murray Adaskin and Alfred Fisher. He is also an enthusiastic and dedicated performer on period instruments, one of his recordings features music of Robert Schumann performed on a restored 1864 Erard. His other recordings include two volumes of the music of Franz Liszt, which have established for him an enviable reputation as a Liszt interpreter. Bruce has been performing with violist Yumiko Yamamoto since 1996 in Canada and Japan. In 1998, they were awarded the prestigious Kyoto Baroque Hall Award of Excellence and a substantial cash prize for the best concert of the year.

    Celebration of Canadian Music
    This CD has been a long-time dream of Toshiko Tampo. After performing a concert in Victoria that highlighted many compositions by Japanese composers, Toshiko was asked whether Canadian composers were often played in Japan. Realizing that there was little exposure to new Canadian composers and desiring to share the music of her new home, Toshiko has been working towards the personal goal of this CD. Toshiko Tampo was born in Sapporo, Japan. Toshiko studied piano performance, chamber music, accompanying and music education at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Hungary where she received her master's degree. Awarded a full scholarship to Canada's Banff Centre, Toshiko came in 1984 to study, give performances and attend master classes with Menhahim Pressler, Georgy Sebok. Later she moved to Victoria to study with Robin Wood. Notable performances include those with members of the Symphony orchestras: of the National Ballet of Canada, Montreal, Edmonton, NHK and Victoria. She plays chamber music with members of the University of Victoria's Music Faculty and with members of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra. Toshiko, all the while maintaining a large number of piano students, has played in music festivals in both Europe and Canada. She is happy to be playing in a concert with her daughter in her native country of Japan! Joyce Ellwood studied at the Victoria Conservatory of Music under James Hunter, at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD, and with Harvey Shapiro at the Johannesson Summer Festival in Victoria. A member of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra since 1974, Joyce has also played with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra for 8 years and continues to perform regularly on baroque cello. She has made frequent appearances with the Island Chamber Players and is very much in demand as a chamber player Praised for her "meltingly beautiful solos" The Detroit News and for performances of "depth and insight" Times Colonist, Cellist Pamela Highbaugh Aloni has enjoyed performing as a chamber musician in North America and Europe. For over 22 years, Pamela has performed as a co-founding member of the Lafayette String Quartet, Artists-in-Residence at the University of Victoria where she teaches both cello and chamber music courses. In addition, she performs in various chamber music series and as principal cellist with the Galiano Ensemble. With the quartet she has recorded compact discs for the Dorian, CBC and AdLar labels, has been heard on NPR's St. Paul Sunday Morning, and can be regularly heard on the CBC radio two. In this performance she is performing on a Hieronymus Amati II cello made in 1690 which is in the collection of the University of Saskatchewan. Lanny Pollet teaches flute and orchestration at the School of Music, University of Victoria and performs regularly in chamber music, in orchestra and as soloist. He is featured, with pianist, Bruce Vogt, on the CD Poetic License. Mr. Pollet has published transcriptions for woodwind ensembles (Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture for woodwind quintet) and composes (Poems of Reminiscense by Thomas Hardy for SATB choir and piano). Other interests include early music performance. He is also quite active as a singer, assisting his wife, Frances Pollet, at First Metropolitan United Church. Yuki Tampo-Hinton, 18 years old was born in Victoria, B.C., Canada. From age 2 until 17 she studied piano with her mother, Toshiko Tampo. This year (2008) Yuki has begun studying with pianist, Arthur Rowe, at the University of Victoria towards her bachelor's degree in piano performance. In July, 2008, Yuki won a scholarship to take a week-long master class with renowned Canadian pianist, André Laplante at the Toronto Summer Music Academy and Festival. This year she also won second place in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition where she will perform in New York City in this 2008-2009 season. In March, 2007 Yuki soloed twice with the Civic Orchestra of Victoria. In 2006 the Two+One piano Trio of Victoria, with Yuki as the pianist, won 2nd place in the national performing arts festival. In 2006 the Trio was given the award for the best performance of a Canadian work. Jennifer Whittle began her violin studies in Portland, Oregon at the age of 10. After high school, she traveled to Los Angeles to study under Lyndon Taylor at the University of Southern California. While in Los Angeles, Jennifer performed under conductors such as Sergui Commisiona, John Williams, and Carl St. Clair and participated in master classes with the Ysaye, Takacs and Emerson String Quartets. Jennifer plays regularly with the Portland Opera, Oregon Ballet, and Victoria Symphony. As a chamber musician, she has performed many concerts in the United States and Canada. She has recently finished a Master's degree in Violin Performance at the University of Victoria.
