Who Murdered Elvis?, 5th Anniversary Edition , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 475min
In 2013, when we published Who Murdered Elvis?, we thought that would be the last word on the subject. We were wrong. In the five years since that publication, more facts, witnesses, interviews, and incredible personal experiences followed. In one case, the author's life was even threatened. These events were so incredible that we couldn't help but write the fifth anniversary edition. Who Murdered Elvis? has officially been reloaded. With the release of this edition, more than 10 years of investigation has been completed into the death of Elvis Presley, and we can honestly say that almost everything you have been told is wrong. From Graceland trying to make a buck selling their product to the blindly naïve to crackpot TV specials twisting the truth and ignoring scientific facts, no one has gotten it right. When it comes to the truth, no one else even comes close to amount of research and dedication put forth in this book. All rights reserved. Bodily Harm , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 683min
Bodily Harm opens with a big win for Sloane and his new partner, Tom Pendergrass, in a medical malpractice case centered on the death of a child. But on the heels of this seeming victory, an unlikely character – toy designer Kyle Horgan – comes forward to tell Sloane that he’s gotten it all wrong. Horgan’s the one who’s truly responsible for the little boy’s death and others – not the pediatrician Sloane has just proven guilty. Ordinarily, Sloane might have dismissed such a person as a crackpot, but something about this case has troubled him from the start - something he couldn’t quite pinpoint. When Sloane tries to follow up with Horgan, he finds the man’s apartment a shambles - ransacked by unknown perpetrators. Horgan has vanished - seemingly without a trace. Together with longtime investigative partner Charles Jenkins, Sloane reexamines his client’s son’s death and digs deeper into Horgan’s claims, forcing him to enter the billion-dollar, cutthroat toy world. As Sloane gets closer to the truth, he trips a wire that leads to a shocking chain of events that nearly destroys him and takes from Sloane more than he ever thought he could possibly lose. To get to the bottom of it all and find justice for the families’ harmed, Sloane must keep in check his overwhelming desire for revenge. Full of nail-bitingly tense action scenes as well as edge-of-your-seat courtroom drama, Bodily Harm finds Robert Dugoni at the very top of his game. ungekürzt. Language: English. Standard Deviations: Flawed Assumptions, Tortured Data, and Other Ways to Lie with Statistics , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 560min
Did you know that baseball players whose names begin with the letter "D" are more likely to die young? Or that Asian Americans are most susceptible to heart attacks on the fourth day of the month? Or that drinking a full pot of coffee every morning will add years to your life, but one cup a day increases the risk of pancreatic cancer? All of these "facts" have been argued with a straight face by credentialed researchers and backed up with reams of data and convincing statistics. As Nobel Prize-winning economist Ronald Coase once cynically observed, "If you torture data long enough, it will confess." Lying with statistics is a time-honored con. In Standard Deviations, economics professor Gary Smith walks us through the various tricks and traps that people use to back up their own crackpot theories. Sometimes, the unscrupulous deliberately try to mislead us. Other times, the well-intentioned are blissfully unaware of the mischief they are committing. Today, data is so plentiful that researchers spend precious little time distinguishing between good, meaningful indicators and total rubbish. Not only do others use data to fool us, we fool ourselves. With the breakout success of Nate Silver's The Signal and the Noise, the once humdrum subject of statistics has never been hotter. Drawing on breakthrough research in behavioral economics by luminaries like Daniel Kahneman and Dan Ariely and taking to task some of the conclusions of Freakonomics author Steven D. Levitt, Standard Deviations demystifies the science behind statistics and makes it easy to spot the fraud all around. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tim Andres Pabon. Ancient Aliens: Extraterrestrial Visitations from Prehistoric Times to the Present , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 264min
In Ancient Aliens: Extraterrestrial Visitations from Prehistoric Times to the Present, Jacques Bergier, a French scholar, states unequivocally that extraterrestrial intelligence have often interfered in human history. And he proves it! To a world titillated by Chariots of the Gods, Jacques Bergier brings new documentation and insight. Extending his observations from the era of the dinosaurs to modern times, Bergier identifies and expands upon items that science has too readily dismissed as “nonsense” or “explained” quickly by categorization. How did a whole race of prehistoric creatures - the dinosaurs - disappear? Serious scholars today are advocating the theory that the dinosaurs were wiped out in a cosmos-originated cataclysm. And what about those mysterious - and unexplained - "manmade" items that are discovered during mining operations, finally released after being locked in coal deposits eons old? They are not the products of random organic phenomena. They give evidence of being manufactured in years past by cultures perhaps alien to Earth. And so it goes - right into modern times. One cannot simply discount all the sightings of UFOs, even of strangers on the Earth, as 21st-century man so cavalierly has done. The pieces of evidence - and the reputations of those who reported their experiences - are too weighty to allow such unscientific reactions. Extraterrestrial visitation is not a crackpot idea. As we discover more about ourselves and our past, and develop the technology that allows us to become space visitors ourselves, it becomes increasingly certain that extraterrestrial visitation on Earth has been an ongoing phenomenon. For his part, Jacques Bergier provides more than clues to the effect; he supplies incontrovertible evidence. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mark Barnard. Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire: A 500-Year History , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1175min
A razor-sharp thinker offers a new understanding of our post-truth world and explains the American instinct to believe in make-believe, from the Pilgrims to P. T. Barnum to Disneyland to zealots of every stripe...to Donald Trump. In this sweeping, eloquent history of America, Kurt Andersen demonstrates that what's happening in our country today - this strange, post-factual, "fake news" moment we're all living through - is not something entirely new, but rather the ultimate expression of our national character and path. America was founded by wishful dreamers, magical thinkers, and true believers, by impresarios and their audiences, by hucksters and their suckers. Believe-whatever-you-want fantasy is deeply embedded in our DNA. Over the course of five centuries - from the Salem witch trials to Scientology to the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, from P. T. Barnum to Hollywood and the anything-goes, wild-and-crazy 60s, from conspiracy theories to our fetish for guns and obsession with extraterrestrials - our peculiar love of the fantastic has made America exceptional in a way that we've never fully acknowledged. With the gleeful erudition and tell-it-like-it-is ferocity of a Christopher Hitchens, Andersen explores whether the great American experiment in liberty has gone off the rails. From the start, our ultra-individualism was attached to epic dreams and epic fantasies - every citizen was free to believe absolutely anything, or to pretend to be absolutely anybody. Little by little, and then more quickly in the last several decades, the American invent-your-own-reality legacy of the Enlightenment superseded its more sober, rational, and empirical parts. We gave ourselves over to all manner of crackpot ideas and make-believe lifestyles designed to console or thrill or terrify us. In Fantasyland, Andersen brilliantly connects the dots that define this condition, portrays its scale and scope, and offers a fresh, bracing explanation ungekürzt. Language: English. Bashing Authors with Negative Reviews and Feeling Fully Justified: Trashing Writers of Bad Books for Fun and Self Confidence , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 24min
Trashing Writers of Bad Books for Fun and Self Confidence Sample From The Book: Some readers might think this is going to be another crackpot book, written by some bitter person who has nothing better to do, than to vent his frustrations toward people who are not actually his problem...I'm not some bitter guy, I just don't like seeing all of these so called "authors" out there publishing their trashy little books. I'm not talking about sexy novels either because those are probably the best thing going. I'm referring to books that don't meet a quality standard that we book reviewers know to be required for somebody to claim they have reached the level of being an actual author. I have reviewed lots of books that are trashy with their grammar and their punctuating and with their spelling. These do not get past me without a bash review being placed on them. I simply won't let them pass through my screening gates because they don't deserve to be recognized as books worthy of being read. I sometimes have authors respond to my bash reviews, telling me that the misspelling typos I mention being found throughout their book, shouldn't be the case because they ran their book through some word-check or error-check programs but that doesn't mean squat! Those programs can be very unreliable and if they really want their book checked for spelling mistakes, they need to get an experienced editor involved or better yet an entire publishing company staff! The Chapters: First Chapter: I'm Really Not a Bad Person, I Just Don't Like Some Books! Second Chapter: Watching the Trends by Keeping Up with Group Members Third Chapter: I Never Thought Becoming a Reviewer Would Be So Easy! Fourth Chapter: Hints for Writing Bash Reviews for Trashing Inferior Authors My Closing Thoughts ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James M. Lowrance. Delusion: Lucy's Breath , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 119min
On a chilly November New York City morning in 1953, a scientist working for the CIA on psychotropic mind-control experiments walked off the 10th-floor balcony of the Statler Hotel. He had become increasingly disenchanted with the bizarre and incredibly dangerous work he had been doing in service to national security. Despite the patriotic rationale, the scientist felt his life’s work was immoral and most certainly illegal. He wanted out - unfortunately, he knew too much, and knowing too much is a very precarious position to be in if you work for a clandestine operation run by America’s very own version of Josef Mengele, the Angel of Death. The scientist insisted on getting out, and out he got, through the window and off the balcony of the Statler Hotel on that brisk fall morning in Manhattan. Was suicide his solution for terminating his deal with the devil, or did the devil do him in? It’s impossible to say. The evidence although in plain sight is murky and blurred by time and the self-preservation of those responsible. I know what you’re thinking: not in my America, not in my beloved United States, not in the home of the brave and the land of the free. Unfortunately, it did happen; it’s the kind of thing that happens when governments feel an existential threat. America has a fundamental flaw, an Achilles heel of perspective and attitude; it fails to understand history and its place in it. In the words of philosopher, George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” If you believe it can’t happen here, I urge you to take a look at the Wall Street Putsch of 1933, and the name of one of the participants. You might find it informative. It could happen again. America is under siege by a series of existential threats. It’s not some crackpot conspiracy theory; it’s history. The question I have is: Which is more dangerous, the external threat or the internal threat? For those who cling to Senator ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kent F. Sheridan.
