Titanic Lives: Migrants and Millionaires, Conmen and Crew , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 858min
Marking the centenary of the Titanic, A Shape of Ice is an utterly compelling exploration of the lives on board the most famous ship in history. The RMS Titanic was built as one of the world's largest and most luxurious liners. A marine Ritz, it was a 45,000 ton hotel of thin steel plates, travelling at a speed of 21 knots across the unforgiving ocean. On the night of 14 April 1912, the seemingly unsinkable ship hit an iceberg. It sustained a 300 feet gash and six compartments were wrenched open to the sea. In little over two hours, the palatial Titanic nose-dived to the bottom of the North Atlantic. Terribly mismanaged, there were not enough lifeboats to carry passengers to safety; over 1,500 people died that night.Who were the Titanic's passengers? In this original and timely book, Richard Davenport-Hines examines the great liner as a social portrait of the Edwardian age; above the squalor of steerage, filled with emigrants moving to the New World, were hundreds of second-class passengers buoyed up by their prosperous respectability. Higher up were the hereditary rich and at the pinnacle stood those of inconceivable wealth - Americans like John Jacob Astor IV, who was found with £2000 and $4000 in sodden notes in his pockets.Bringing together over 2,000 passengers and crew from every class and five continents, A Shape of Ice tells their stories, re-creating the complexities, disparities and tensions of life one hundred years ago. ungekürzt. Japanese Folk Tales , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 86min
The next day Urashima Taro went to the shore again and saw the turtle's head poking out from the waves. "I owe you my life!" said the grateful turtle as it came out of the sea to meet Urashima Taro. "As a token of my thanks, I would like to take you to the Dragon Palace."Urashima Taro thought this was a splendid idea, but felt that he could not leave his old mother alone at home. "We won't be long," assured the turtle, so Urashima Taro accepted the invitation and climbed onto the turtle's back. The turtle dived deep into the sea. Gliding along, they neared a castle, glittering with gold and silver. From it emerged a charming, beautifully dressed princess, accompanied by her ladies-in-waiting and a host of fish. She took Urashima Taro into the palace, where an exquisite banquet was spread out for him. While dining endlessly on delicacies and drinking fine wine, he was entertained with gorgeous music and dancing beauties and fish. Urashima Taro was spellbound. Before he knew it, three whole years had passed. Finally coming out of his spell, Urashima Taro said he wanted to return home. As a farewell gift, the Sea-Princess handed him a three-tiered tamatebako (jeweled hand-box), saying: "If you find yourself in trouble or at a loss, please open it up." With the box tightly secured under his arm, Urashima Taro once more climbed onto the turtle's back and set off for home...." You may have even had all the facts stacked in your favor but just have not been able to communicate them! Well this guide can change all that and arm you with all the required information to communicate your point calmly and effectively. Crater, Volume 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 499min
It is 1992, just after the USSR was dissolved and free market economy was declared. Without corresponding legislature, law enforcement and even cultural tradition, the country dived into a chaos of an unrestrained freedom. The former ruling elite - of Communist Party and KGB - joined forces with criminal underground and started to take over. Ordinary people, not used to the self-governing, still hoped that the country leaders would take care about them - the hard working majority. But the development proved futility of such a hope.A group of young scientists and a few their friends, some with special military training, decided to investigate the Patomskiy crater, located in the middle of Siberia - just north-east of the Lake Baikal, on the border between the main Russian gold mining region and diamond fields of Yakutia. They hoped to have a nice and interesting break from the grim routine of their life, before the declining economy would render such trips not affordable anymore. What they actually encountered was far from the easy and exiting journey. It changed their lives in a way only tragedy could. Two more books titled Center and Diamonds - about the same group of people and further development of the story - are written already. The author will continue to expand the sequel by unfolding layers of the crater's mystery, which in turn leads the book characters to new scientific discoveries and the insights into human consciousness, creativity, productivity, and the future of humanity. Among the leading characters are scientists and believers of several major religions, which allows for a multi-dimensional dialog and cooperation - all immersed in the atmosphere of adventure and actions. Can science solve all the problems? What is the role of business in the human progress? How one finds the meaning and purpose of his or her life?Born in Russia, the author emigrated to the US in 1999. Physicist by education and the first t ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Micah Howery. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/184393/bk_acx0_184393_sample.mp3. Social skills are needed in everyday life. Without them, people cannot relate with each other. Some say that they are tools that ensures communication is possible and appropriate for engaging other people. It also helps one easily get along with others. Over the years, people have been taught these socials skills. They are not inbuilt when someone is born. They are acquired later. They are acquired through the social institutions that one finds themselves in. These social institutions include the family, school, or even one's religion. The first social institution is the family. This is the basic place where one learns the first social skills. They are then added upon by school and religions and other social agents follow. When social skills are well-learned, then a person becomes good at maintaining his or her relationships. Social skills in the current few years have been taken as a joke. People think that they are something to be toyed with and thus are not keenly enforced like in the past. In the past, they were taught by word of mouth and the teachings were passed down from generation to generation. But, they are currently even taught in books. So, do you want to know all about these social skills? Then, this book entails the following to satisfy your social skills hunger. The book dives in straight and talks about communication games, activities, and exercises. These are the best ways to improve someone’s communication with others. The book also discusses the reasons why every human being requires social skills and the benefits of good conversation skills. Where there is an upside, there is also a downside. So, the book also covers the problems people face if they do not improve their social skills. Empathy is another thing that is discussed. It is crucial in conversation skills. Who By Fire (eBook, ePUB)
The incredible never-before-told story of Leonard Cohen's 1973 tour of Israel during the Yom Kippur War. "Who by Fire is a stunning resurrection of a moment in the life of Leonard Cohen and the history of Israel. It's the story of a young artist in crisis and a young country at war, and the powerful resonance of the chord struck between them. A beautiful, haunting book full of feeling." -Nicole Krauss, author of To Be a Man In October, 1973, the poet and singer Leonard Cohen - 39 years old, famous, unhappy, and at a creative dead end - traveled to the Sinai desert and inserted himself into the chaos and bloodshed of the Yom Kippur War. Moving around the front with a guitar and a pick-up team of local musicians, Cohen dived headlong into the midst of a global crisis and met hundreds of fighting men and women at the worst moment of their lives. His audiences heard him knowing it might be the last thing they heard, and those who survived never forgot what they heard. Cohen's war tour was an electric cultural moment, one that still echoes today, and one that inspired some of his greatest songs - but a moment that only few knew about, until now. In Who By Fire, Canadian-Israeli journalist Matti Friedman gives us a riveting account of what happened during those weeks in Israel in October, 1973. With access to amazing and never-before-seen material written by Cohen himself, along with dozens of interviews and rare photographs, Friedman revives this fraught and stunning time, presenting an intimate and unforgettable portrait of the artist, and of the young people who heard him sing in the midst of combat. Who By Fire brings us close to one the greatest, most brilliant and charismatic voices of our times, and gives us a rare glimpse of war, faith, and belonging.- Shop: buecher

The Muslim Narcissist
Narcissism is a personality disorder that is essentially a by-product of deeply rooted issues from childhood and an over-inflated ego that pursues evil desires at the expense of one's faith, morals and the feelings of others. For years, psychologists, sociologists and mental health experts have dived deeply into the phenomena of narcissistic behaviour, providing a great scope of knowledge from their extensive studies. Some of these observations come from a Christian perspective, but within the context of Islamic psychology, knowledge about where narcissism comes from is scarce. It is important to understand why narcissism is becoming more prevalent among Muslims, when in fact there are teachings in Islam that guide us on how to identify, avoid, deal with and overcome it. Patriarchal societies are primarily associated with men who have narcissistic tendencies, however more and more women are displaying similar behaviours in their relationships too. If you are one of the many people who have come into contact with Muslim narcissists, you will know how difficult it is to maintain relationships with them. As a British Muslim sociologist and counsellor, I often see that many men, women and children have been suffering for years as a result of other Muslims distorting the meaning of various teachings from The Qur'an and Hadiths into justifications for their religious and spiritual abuse and oppression. There are many detrimental consequences for this, the major one being the depletion of faith from the hearts of those who associate problematic attitudes and characteristics with Islamic teachings, due to a lack of awareness of narcissism. In this book, I will share with you what the Islamic faith tells us about narcissism and where it comes from, how people develop this disorder, how to recognize and avoid Muslim narcissists and how to help and deal with them, enabling you to move on from a toxic situation. I will give you fascinating insights as to why you attract them and how to break the cycle of being a victim, so you can attract healthy people and relationships into your lives. This book will also serve as an eye-opener for those who possess strong narcissistic traits for them to see the negative long-term impact their behaviour has not just on the lives of others and the community, but on their own lives if left unaddressed. I truly believe when people face their demons and heal from their traumas, our Muslim homes and communities will be healed and saved too.
