Cleopatra VII, The Last Pharaoh: Interviews with History, Book 5 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 35min
Cleopatra (69 BC-30 BC), the last Pharaoh of Egypt and the third daughter Ptolemy XII Auletes, is one of the most mysterious people in ancient history, so compelling and mysterious that myths and legends abound about her to this day. Not much is known about her early life but her later conquests became the fodder for countless movies and books. Some portray her as a majestic seductress and others portray her as a bloodthirsty killer; oftentimes both. There is truth to these renditions of her. She knew what she wanted and worked tirelessly to get it. She was bred to be the ruler of Egypt and she would achieve this goal by any means necessary, even if it meant killing her own family members...even if it meant sleeping with the enemy. She would get what she desired. In the end, she only partially succeeded, she never lived to see her grander vision come to fruition. In this volume of Interviews with History, we will cover, ever so briefly, the life of this great queen - Queen Cleopatra, the last Pharaoh of Egypt. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: D.M. Kuniyoshi: Japanese Master of Imagined Worlds
Enjoying a career spanning almost fifty years, from the 1810s to his death in 1861, Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) was instrumental in establishing warrior prints as one of the major genres in the history of Japanese woodblock prints (ukiyo-e). His most spectacular triptychs of warriors resonate even in contemporary culture, their influence reflected in modern graphic media such as manga. This publication demonstrates that Kuniyoshi's artistic genius also extended to the creation of striking prints in other genres: images of beautiful women and kabuki actors, ghosts, demons and monsters, anthropomorphic renditions of animals illustrating everyday life, as well as compositions replete with humour and often involving witty wordplay. Examples of Kuniyoshi's work also reveal the artist's dialogue with aspects of European pictorial traditions in his experimentation with shading and perspective. The selection of prints in Kuniyoshi: Japanese master of imagined worlds includes representative pieces of the highest quality, a number of which are illustrated for the first time outside Japan. Descriptive texts accompany the 136 prints in the publication and these are introduced by an in-depth discussion of Kuniyoshi's life and his art.- Shop: buecher
