Der Autor Wolfgang Sorge (1891-1941) beschreibt im vorliegenden Band die Geschichte der Prostitution von den Anfängen in der Antike und Griechenland, über das Mittelalter und die Renaissance bis zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Im Altertum, so zum Beispiel in Babylon und bei den Phöniziern in Tyros, existierte vor mehr als 3000 Jahren die so genannte Tempelprostitution.
