Maryanne Coleman was a popular journalist who worked for The Ministry during the 1940s. While under the guise of a reporter for The Southern Herald, her role was to interview a variety of survivors of "The Great Tribulation", which had plunged Britain into chaos. She traveled throughout Britain speaking to a wide assortment of characters and those who had come to the attention of The Ministry and to collate information, both overtly and covertly, on the current state of the nation. Although her interviews were later recovered, Maryanne herself went missing. Her fate is currently unknown. It must be conjectured that one of the interviewees was involved in her disappearance. Here then, is a collection of 10 of Maryanne's most interesting, amusing, bizarre, frightful, and compelling interviews. Please note: These accounts are not for public dissemination and to distribute them, knowingly or unknowingly, to anyone below silver clearance will be considered an act of treason. ungekürzt. If you find yourself miserable or helpless here, may I tell you that you are not condemned to that state by a deity outside of yourself, for everything that takes place in your world is but a movement within God. We are told that in the very beginning the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and things came into being. Everything - your misery, your helplessness, your joy, your sorrow - no matter what it is, comes into being by a movement within God, and he is not a deity outside yourself. You are not a helpless being, but the operant power of God. Seated as you are now, you can move without moving physically because your eternal body is all imagination. Called Jesus Christ in scripture, you are God's power and wisdom. So if you find yourself in a place where you are miserable and feel helpless, it is because you either knowingly or unknowingly fell into that state, and not because of the condemnation of some deity outside of you. ungekürzt. Congratulations! You are now a member of a cult audience. This means that you know about me before a lot of other people do. Imagine the fun you'll have dropping my name into conversation with unsuspecting 'squares': 'Ha! That reminds me of that bit on the Spencer Brown album....'"'Who?' They'll reply, falling naively into your trap. You'll pause as if you have said something you shouldn't, nod knowingly, and then turn back to your copy of Proust."But being a member of a cult audience has its responsibilities: mention my name enough and you'll be one of the cool people; mention it too much and I'll be rich and famous and you'll be just another face in the crowd. A sheep. So enjoy it while you can. It won't be long before you'll be saying 'Spencer Brown? Yeah.... I like his early stuff, but I feel he's gone a bit mainstream....' Try saying it now. It feels good doesn't it? Almost something to look forward to...or who knows? Maybe that'll turn out to be just another thing you don't have to do!"Spencer Brown Language: English. World-renowned Shakespeare scholar Stephen Greenblatt explores the playwright's insight into bad (and often mad) rulers.  As an aging, tenacious Elizabeth I clung to power, a talented playwright probed the social causes, the psychological roots, and the twisted consequences of tyranny. In exploring the psyche (and psychoses) of the likes of Richard III, Macbeth, Lear, Coriolanus, and the societies they rule over, Stephen Greenblatt illuminates the ways in which William Shakespeare delved into the lust for absolute power and the catastrophic consequences of its execution.  Cherished institutions seem fragile, political classes are in disarray, economic misery fuels populist anger, people knowingly accept being lied to, partisan rancor dominates, spectacular indecency rules - these aspects of a society in crisis fascinated Shakespeare and shaped some of his most memorable plays. With uncanny insight, he shone a spotlight on the infantile psychology and unquenchable narcissistic appetites of demagogues - and the cynicism and opportunism of the various enablers and hangers-on who surround them - and imagined how they might be stopped. As Greenblatt shows, Shakespeare's work, in this as in so many other ways, remains vitally relevant today. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Edoardo Ballerini. Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees... Sound familiar? In the 1980's these monstrous characters were as popular as Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman had been in the '30's. But they were different. Not the stuff of ancient myths or classic literature, Krueger and Co. were monsters from the backyard of American suburbia - the landscape of slasher movies such as Halloween (1979), Friday the 13th (1980) and the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Slasher movies took horror to new heights of graphic violence while, in some cases, simultaneously plumbing new depths of camp self-referentiality. They have nonetheless had a lasting impact - from 'respectable' studio pictures such as The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Single White Female (1992), to the new breed of teen movies such as The Faculty and The Scream franchise, which play knowingly with the conventions of the slasher. In this Pocket Essential guide you'll find an introductory essay, an in-depth discussion of all the major films, a consideration of the influences on the genre and a checklist of the stars who got their big break being slashed! ungekürzt.
