90s Bitch: Media, Culture, and the Failed Promise of Gender Equality , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 693min
To understand how we got here, we have rewind the VHS tape. 90s Bitch tells the real story of women and girls in the 1990s, exploring how they were maligned by the media, vilified by popular culture, and objectified in the marketplace. Trailblazing women like Hillary Clinton, Anita Hill, Marcia Clark, and Roseanne Barr were undermined. Newsmakers like Monica Lewinsky, Tonya Harding, and Lorena Bobbitt were shamed and misunderstood. The advent of the 24-hour news cycle reinforced society's deeply entrenched sexism. Meanwhile, marketers hijacked feminism and poisoned girlhood for a generation of young women. Today, there are echoes of '90s “bitchification” nearly everywhere we look. To understand why, we must revisit and interrogate the 1990s - a decade in which female empowerment was twisted into objectification, exploitation, and subjugation. Yarrow’s thoughtful, juicy, and timely examination is a must-listen for anyone trying to understand 21st-century sexism and end it for the next generation. ungekürzt. Language: English. In Bed with Susie Bright 685: Stripped Tea: The Naked Slaveboy Tea Party That Started a Movement, Hörbuch, Digital, 38min, (USK 18)
Twenty-five years ago, Susie and a few feminist friends planned an unusual party: "Let's have men serve tea in the nude, and they can only speak to the women guests when spoken to." Sounds like a hoot, right? But wait - it also started a movement called CFNM (Clothed-Female-Naked-Man). Planning the party was fun! Who to invite? Who to select as the "slaveboys"? Susie recalls all the details of the infamous party. Then, just what is this CFNM movement? An article by Garth May in The Debrief (thedebrief.co.uk), questions whether Clothed-Female-Naked-Man fetishes really are feminist. There is a power play involved, but Susie says fantasies are neither feminist or non-feminist. Many elements and strategies can tilt the deck either way: humiliation, subservience, and objectification. Wanna give this fetish a try? Have a question or news story for Susie? You can send your confidential queries and comments to susie@susiebright.com. [Episode 685, December 11, 2015] Explicit Language Warning: You must be 18 years or older to purchase this program. Subtle Acts of Exclusion: How to Understand, Identify, and Stop Microaggressions , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 321min
This practical, accessible, nonjudgmental book is the first to help individuals and organizations recognize and prevent microaggressions so that all employees can feel a sense of belonging in their workplace. Our workplace and society are growing more diverse, but are we supporting inclusive cultures? While overt racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination are relatively easy to spot, we cannot neglect the subtler everyday actions that normalize exclusion. Many have heard the term microaggression, but not everyone fully understands what they are or how to recognize them and stop them from happening. In this book, Tiffany Jana and Michael Baran offer a clearer, more accessible term, subtle acts of exclusion, or SAEs, to emphasize the purpose and effects of these actions. After all, people generally aren’t trying to be aggressive. Usually, they’re trying to say something nice, learn more about a person, be funny, or build closeness. But whether in the form of exaggerated stereotypes, backhanded compliments, unfounded assumptions, or objectification, SAE are damaging to our coworkers, friends, and acquaintances.Jana and Baran give simple and clear tools to identify and address such acts, offering scripts and action plans for everybody involved: the subject, initiator, and observer. Knowing how to have these conversations in an open-minded, honest way will help us build trust and create stronger workplaces and healthier, happier people and communities. ungekürzt. Erkenntnis des Göttlichen im Bild? (eBook, PDF)
[Cognition of the Divine in the Image? Considerations from Hermeneutical Theology and Ancient Philosophy] Can, may, or must one, even, depict the divine visually? In considering global imageries of New Media and the authority of images in a religious context, both ancient and novel questions arise: Might a hermeneutics of the pictorial be a suitable model for biblical interpretation? And: Do hermeneutical theology and ancient philosophy know of a concept of image that critically crosses out its own objectification, thus becoming theologically and philosophically enticing? The authors approach these questions from perspectives of hermeneutical theology and ancient philosophy, thus documenting papers from the 2019 Bultmann-Lecture in Marburg, which aim to also contribute to the discourse on imagery within cultural sciences.- Shop: buecher

The View From Nowhere (eBook, PDF)
Human beings have the unique ability to view the world in a detached way: We can think about the world in terms that transcend our own experience or interest, and consider the world from a vantage point that is, in Nagel's words, "nowhere in particular." At the same time, each of us is a particular person in a particular place, each with his own "personal" view of the world, a view that we can recognize as just one aspect of the whole. How do we reconcile these two standpoints--intellectually, morally, and practically? To what extent are they irreconcilable and to what extent can they be integrated? Thomas Nagel's ambitious and lively book tackles this fundamental issue, arguing that our divided nature is the root of a whole range of philosophical problems, touching, as it does, every aspect of human life. He deals with its manifestations in such fields of philosophy as: the mind-body problem, personal identity, knowledge and skepticism, thought and reality, free will, ethics, the relation between moral and other values, the meaning of life, and death. Excessive objectification has been a malady of recent analytic philosophy, claims Nagel, it has led to implausible forms of reductionism in the philosophy of mind and elsewhere. The solution is not to inhibit the objectifying impulse, but to insist that it learn to live alongside the internal perspectives that cannot be either discarded or objectified. Reconciliation between the two standpoints, in the end, is not always possible.- Shop: buecher

The Greatest Matches and Rivalries of the WrestleMania Era , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 801min
What are the greatest matches and rivalries of the WrestleMania era? The blanket statement that pro wrestling greatness is completely up to each individual, period, end of sentence has never sat particularly well with long-time pro wrestling columnist and podcaster "The Doc" Chad Matthews. In fact, he strongly disagrees, having long posited that professional wrestling is reasonably objectifiable, like modern college football rankings in the playoff era. In America's gridiron pastime, the college game relies on a select few, organized into a committee, to choose the best four teams worthy of competing for the championship each season. Though the decisions are also considered subjective, the playoff committee rankings are reasonably objective too. It is not as if Alabama is picked because their crimson jerseys are pretty or USC is chosen because the president of the United States has an affinity for Los Angeles. There are basic criteria used to evaluate the resumes of each viable candidate. Breaking down wrestling's greatest is no different. Utilizing something he calls "objective subjectivism" - a euphemism that acknowledges pro wrestling as obviously somewhat subjective but petitions for acknowledgment of pro wrestling also being inescapably capable of objectification (like Hollywood and college football) - Matthews has mined the annals of WWE and NWA/WCW lore to discover the specific traits that define the greatest matches and rivalries. Having pinpointed these elements, he has found a logical way to separate the truly great from the very good to compare the totality of stories like Daniel Bryan versus The Authority or Stone Cold versus Vince McMahon to overall rivalries like Triple H versus The Rock or Edge versus Undertaker to iconic matches like Steamboat versus Savage or Angle versus Michaels in order to construct the ultimate historical countdown. ungekürzt.
