China's Economic Challenge: Unconventional Success
This book analyzes economic strategies responsible for China's 40 years of 40-fold growth, suggesting how such strategies might be applied elsewhere. It combines a seven-chapter chronological analysis of China's growth with three additional chapters on the government's leadership role, success in poverty reduction, and China's combined international finance and trade experience. The book recaps why China's success challenges the United States and the field of development economics. One of its emphases, the 1980s, reports how generous rural price and land-tenure reforms caused a rural income boom that threatened urban subsidized livelihoods and underpinned consequent violence. It describes how China will likely face a similar challenge moving forward, during the planned merger of rural and urban workforces. The book includes an analysis of the US-China trade war and China's economic prospects in the wake of COVID-19. It is a clear and timely account for anyone interested in understanding the institutions and policies responsible for China's successful development and its likely continuation.- Shop: buecher

Telugu Christians (eBook, ePUB)
This volume narrates the history of Telugu Christians, a faith community located in the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Pondicherry in southern India. A social history of a faith community, this volume analyzes how social aspirations of the community, local worldviews, and historical contingencies shaped the beliefs and practices of Telugu Christians. It relates and interprets the history of Telugu Christians chronologically from the sixteenth century until the current times. The first two chapters of the book examine the earliest encounters between the Christian message that European missionaries introduced and the local Christians. Covering three centuries, this section highlights the appropriation of the Christian message among the caste converts. Later chapters analyze the impact of Dalit conversions and women's leadership on the social fabric and theological texture of Telugu Christianity in the nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries. The book ends with a consideration of three dominant movements in the second half of the twentieth century and the early twenty-first, namely the process of Sanskritization, the influences of Pentecostalism, and those of Holiness movements on the Telugu church. In conclusion, Taneti recaps how caste and empire shaped the faith and practices of Telugu Christians.- Shop: buecher

In Bed with Susie Bright 385: Marilyn Chambers, the Sex Star Who Changed Everything, Hörbuch, Digital, 28min, (USK 18)
Today, Susie reflects on the life and influence of Marilyn Chambers, who recently passed away. Marilyn Chambers made a name for herself in the 1970s when she was an X-rated movie star, as well as the wholesome face featured on boxes of Ivory Snow laundry detergent. Marilyn was more than just a porn star; she was a true star and a sexual icon. Susie has many memories of why Marilyn stood apart in the sex industry. As an adult-film star, she truly loved sex and didn't feel like a victim. Susie recaps some of Marilyn's best work, in such movies as Insatiable and Behind the Green Door, and talks about how difficult show biz can be when people go from being on the A list down to the D list. Rest in peace, Marilyn.... Then, in the "Try This at Home" mailbag, Susie gets a question from a female caller with a fun and exciting query: If you could do it with anyone, who would that be? In Bed with Susie Bright 408: Three-ways...for Real People, Hörbuch, Digital, 39min, (USK 18)
Extra, extra, read all about it: threesomes are making a comeback. The New York Post featured the recent headline "Menage a trios goes Mainstream". Is the once-considered-too-kinky three-way sexual encounter now becoming commonplace? Does this mean your neighbors and friends are a lot wilder then you are? Susie takes a look at how the media is portraying three-way sex and the difference between today's attitude towards threesomes compared with the '70s era of free love. Have we really become more open - or are we maybe just more inundated with sexual options? Next, Susie recaps a very sad voting day outcome from the state whose motto boasts that it offers "The Way Life Should Be". It seems that Maine believes it's okay to deny equal rights for some. What a life! Susie discusses the gay marriage vote that tore Maine apart. Then, in the "Try This at Home" mailbag, Susie responds to a letter from a listener who has a question about her husband's fantasies. She's worried because he gets off by hearing about all her past sexual encounters. Is he nuts? Have a question? You can call Susie's hotline at 831-480-5110. And you can send your confidential questions - plus requests for free samples and blog banners! - to susie@susiebright.com. Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 726min
The retired four-star general and best-selling author of My Share of the Task shares a powerful new leadership model Former general Stanley McChrystal held a key position for much of the War on Terror, as head of the Joint Special Operations Command. In Iraq he found that despite the vastly superior resources, manpower, and training of the US military, Al Qaeda had an advantage because of its structure as a loose network of small, independent cells. Those cells wreaked havoc by always staying one step ahead, sharing knowledge with each other via high-tech communications. To defeat such an agile enemy, JSOC had to change its focus from efficiency to adaptability. McChrystal led the transformation of his forces into a network that combined robust centralized communication ("shared consciousness") with decentralized managerial authority ("empowered execution"). Now he shows not only how the military made that transition but also how similar shifts are possible in all kinds of organizations, from large companies to startups to charities to government agencies. In a world of rapid change, the best organizations think and act like a team of teams, embracing small groups that combine the freedom to experiment with a relentless drive to share what they've learned. McChrystal and his colleagues explain their process for helping organizations embrace this model. They also share fascinating research and examples from settings as diverse as emergency rooms and NASA's mission control center. Read by Paul Michael. Introduction and recaps read by General Stanley McChrystal. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Paul Michael. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/peng/002580/bk_peng_002580_sample.mp3.
