The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a British children's book written by Beatrix Potter that follows mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit as he is chased about the garden of Mr. McGregor. He escapes and returns home to his mother, who puts him to bed after dosing him with tea.  The tale was written for five-year-old Noel Moore, son of Potter's former governess Annie Carter Moore, in 1893. It was revised and privately printed by Potter in 1901 after several publishers' rejections, but was printed in a trade edition by Frederick Warne & Co. in 1902. The book was a success, and multiple reprints were issued in the years immediately following its debut. It has been translated into 36 languages, and, with 45 million copies sold, it is one of the best-selling books of all time. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: George Gao. When Persephone Lancaster receives a marriage proposal from the ill-tempered Duke of Kielder, she refuses - and then reconsiders. The obscene sum of money he's offering Persephone would save her family from ruin. With her characteristic optimism, she travels to the far reaches of Northumberland to wed a greatly feared stranger. Lodged deep in a thick forest infested with wild dogs, the Duke's castle is as cold and forbidding as the Duke himself, a man with terrible scars on his body and his soul. But the Duke's steely determination to protect his heart at all costs is challenged by his growing attachment to his lovely and gentle bride. With caring persistence, Persephone attempts to pierce the Duke's armor and reach the man beneath. Yet, he cannot tolerate such exposure, and his repeated rejections take their toll. But when grave danger arises, the Duke realizes he must face the risk of revealing his true feelings or lose the woman he cannot live without. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Aubrey Warner. The bestselling story of Julia's years in France in her own words-and the basis for the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Although she would later singlehandedly create a new approach to American cuisine with her cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking and her television show The French Chef, Julia Child was not always a master chef. Indeed, when she first arrived in France in 1948 with her husband, Paul, who was to work for the USIS, she spoke no French and knew nothing about the country itself. But as she dove into French culture, buying food at local markets and taking classes at the Cordon Bleu, her life changed forever with her newfound passion for cooking and teaching. Julia's unforgettable story-struggles with the head of the Cordon Bleu, rejections from publishers to whom she sent her now-famous cookbook, a wonderful, nearly fifty-year long marriage that took the Childs across the globe-unfolds with the spirit so key to Julia's success as a chef and a writer, brilliantly capturing one of America's most endearing personalities.

The Many Loves of Duane Vorhees is the psychic poetic skeleton of a prose novel about the phases of love (love sought, love gained, love lost, love shared, love spurned), without any of the manifest trappings of setting, plot, characters, etc., all of which any listener can easily supply autobiographically. When the particulars are removed, the universal remains. It has eight sections, each representing a stage of development.Beth is about romantic, adolescent love which is more about longing and yearning rather than actualization. Jenny depicts the less innocent, more destructive form of lust and maturity that follows. Yeobo traces a marriage, its mysteries, its moments of passion and boredom, its starts and spurts. Its dissolution. It dissects midlife crisis, "playing the field," the search for sexual re-ignition, the fantasies, successes, and rejections of an aging former boy. Grace represents a confusedly hopeful culmination of that search, unfortunately followed by O, Dark Lady, the despair and depression that accompanies the recognition of a failing physique and the end of love's promise. Sally is the late blooming of love's potential. The cycle ends with Sirinya, at last - evidence that it's never too late to find love's genuine accomplishment. ungekürzt. Language: English.
