Rob: I am a captive in this strange dark erotic castle, captive but not a prisoner. My overpowering attraction to Garth, the sexiest lad I've ever met, is what is holding me here, the darkly handsome Dolf is another master I wouldn't mind serving...also there are mysteries here to be solved, lessons to be learned, kisses to steal and hearts to break, or so Mr. Winters, the butler, whispered to me as he undressed me... I am laying in a huge ornate golden bed with a man asleep next to me, a stranger who had his way with me all night. He whispered he loved me before he fell into exhausted post orgasmic slumber...I am not sure if it is morning yet, the mask he had me wear is still on my eyes, so all I see is black...but as I am picturing memories of how I came to be here in this castle of pleasures, the darkness is fine, like watching a movie of my strange adventures, starting with.... ...the first morning I arrived, I was so awed by the grandeur of the palace, stunned by the splendor as I was led though the vast historical halls, rooms and corridors.... I felt like I was entering a fairytale, and I love fairytales. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Talbot. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/079483/bk_acx0_079483_sample.mp3. This award winning nonfiction book, A Search for Meaning: From the Surface of a Small Planet, is both sober and lighthearted, sometimes awed and sometimes irreverent (toward both science and religion) - but always intensely personal, rational, stretching, and pressing toward a wedding of scientific understanding and mystical thought. Although Don Pendleton (1927-1995) did not come draped with academic honors or letters, his extensive background in science and communications - as a telegrapher, an aerospace engineer, a metaphysical scholar, and author, gave him the ability to take a reader very far beyond themselves, whether it be in fiction or in nonfiction. In this audiobook, Pendleton dramatically investigates the sciences, religions, and philosophies with a view toward dignifying the human experience and provides a frame work in which the individual listener may validate his/her own life and dreams relating to the whole. Don's slant into the material is unique; often humorous; the findings evocative; conclusions satisfying for the rationalist; inspiring; and, perhaps, even transformational for the true seeker. Those who wish to be challenged by innovative thinking and daring ideas - reaching with their minds to coax out an understanding of the world as well as the meaning of their own lives - will find this book takes them on a spiritual search as well as an intellectual one. ungekürzt. From the author of The Rope Walk, the story of a woman's life in its twilight, as she looks back on both a harrowing childhood and the unaccountable love and happiness that emerged from it. Ruth has always stood firmly beside her upstanding, brilliant husband, Peter, the legendary chief of the Derry School for boys. The childless couple has a unique, passionate bond which grew out of Ruth's arrival on his family doorstep as a young girl orphaned by tragedy. And though sometimes frustrated by her role as lifelong helpmeet, Ruth is awed by her good fortune in Peter. As the novel opens we see the Derry School in all its glorious New England fall colors and witness the loosening of the aging Peter's grasp - he will soon have to retire, and Ruth is wondering what they will do in their old age, separated from the school into which they have poured everything, including their savings. As the novel unfurls, it takes us back through their days and years, revealing the explosive spark and joy of their love - undiminished now in their 70s - and giving us a deeply felt portrait of a woman from the generation that quietly put individual dreams aside for the good of a partnership, twinned with the revelation of the surprising gift of the right man's love, which keeps giving to the end. ungekürzt. A late-in-life coming-of-age escapade told with humor and heart, Don't Think Twice is a moving and irreverent account of grief, growing up, and the healing power of adventure. Within six months, Barbara Schoichet lost everything: her job, her girlfriend of six years, and her mother to pancreatic cancer. Her life stripped bare, and armed with nothing but a death wish and a ton of attitude, Barbara pursues an unlikely method of coping. At the age of 50 she earns her motorcycle license, buys a Harley on eBay from two guys named Dave, and drives it alone from New York to Los Angeles on a circuitous trek loosely guided by her H.O.G. tour book and a whole lot of road whimsy. On the open highway - where she daily takes her speed to 100 - Barbara battles physical limitations and inner demons on a journey that flows through the majestic Appalachian Mountains, the enchanting Turquoise Trail, and all along America's iconic Route 66. She is awed by the battlefields in Gettysburg, stunned by the decadence of Graceland, and amused by a Cadillac graveyard in the middle of nowhere. She meets kind strangers, odd strangers, and a guy who pulls a gun on her for cutting him off. She is vulnerable but sassy, broken but determined to heal...or die trying.  ungekürzt. Competence does not speak for itself! You can’t simply display it; you have to draw people’s attention to it. World-renowned negotiation and deception detection expert, business professor, and mentalist Jack Nasher offers effective, proven techniques to convince others that we are talented, trustworthy, and yes, even brilliant.Nasher offers the example of Joshua Bell, possibly the world’s most famous violinist. In January 2007, at rush hour, he stepped into a Washington, DC, subway station, dressed like any street busker, and began to play a $4,000,000 Stradivarius. It was part of an experiment staged by a journalist of The Washington Post, who expected Bell’s skill alone to attract an immense, awed crowd. But Bell was generally ignored, and when he stopped, nobody applauded. He made $34.17.The good news is that you don’t have to accept obscurity. You can positively affect others’ perception of your talent. Whether you’re looking for work, giving an important presentation, seeking clients or customers for your business, or vying for a promotion, Nasher explains how to use techniques, such as expectation management, verbal and nonverbal communication, the Halo Effect, competence framing, and the power of nonconformity to gain control of how others perceive you.Competence is the most highly valued professional trait. But it’s not enough to be competent, you have to convey your competence. With Nasher’s help you can showcase your expertise, receive the recognition you deserve, and achieve lasting success. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Gillies. If you want to discover the captivating history of Joan of Arc, then pay attention....Joan's story almost feels like a novel instead of a part of history. She was a shining savior on a warhorse, waving her white banner and calling her soldiers forth to victory; but she was also painfully and intensely human, a young girl who wept and bled just the same as the rest of us. In the same breath, it is as easy to relate to Joan as it is to be awed by her incredible character. She may have been beatified as a saint, but Joan of Arc was in many ways a very ordinary human being, a person who felt pain and fear, a person who made mistakes, and who had moments of weakness. This audiobook follows her through her extraordinary journey. Feel her terror as she first experienced her visions. See her determination as she convinced a cynical captain to grant her passage to the Dauphin. Experience her exhilaration and faith as she led the French army to victory after victory. Weep alongside her as the King of France betrayed her. Suffer with her during her long imprisonment in the hands of her enemies. And cry with the witnesses who saw her burn for a crime she did not commit. She was Joan of Arc, a person whose life remains wreathed in mystery, but nonetheless a fascinating adventure. And this is her story. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Randy Whitlow. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/148094/bk_acx0_148094_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Li Po (AD 701-762) lived in T'ang Dynasty China, but his influence has spanned the centuries: the pure lyricism of his poems has awed readers in China and Japan for over a millennium, and through Ezra Pound’s translations, Li Po became central to the modernist revolution in the West. His work is suffused with Taoism and Ch'an (Zen) Buddhism, but these seem not so much spiritual influences as the inborn form of his life. There is a set-phrase in Chinese referring to the phenomenon of Li Po: "Winds of the immortals, bones of the Tao." He moved through this world with an unearthly freedom from attachment, and at the same time belonged profoundly to the earth and its process of change. However ethereal in spirit, his poems remain grounded in the everyday experience we all share. He wrote 1,200 years ago, half a world away, but in his poems we see our world transformed. Legendary friends in eighth-century T'ang China, Li Po and Tu Fu are traditionally celebrated as the two greatest poets in the Chinese canon. David Hinton’s translation of Li Po’s poems is no less an achievement than his critically acclaimed The Selected Poems of Tu Fu, also published by New Directions. By reflecting the ambiguity and density of the original, Hinton continues to create compelling English poems that alter our conception of Chinese poetry. ungekürzt. Language: English.
