Majority of the Few is Mark Finley and Cory Graves. The pair places a strong emphasis on unique melody, interesting rhythms and consciousness expanding lyrics. Live, the band uses multiple layers of synthetic and organic loops to complement a locked in drum and bass sound, creating a heartfelt and passionate sound that is tangible. Both members are from Virginia, but didn't meet until moving to LA, forming the band in 2008. Majority of the Few is releasing a full-length album, Corollaries, and will support the album with a series of tours throughout California and the Southwest. At times introspective and at times aggressive, Corollaries delves into the heartbreak of loss, living a good life, and moving forward while acknowledging the past. Produced by LA based Adam Haggar, it moves from rhythmic rockers to achingly beautiful ballads. The vocal arrangements are interesting and ear catching, and are offset by numerous instrumental breaks which are layered and complex. The album mixes traditional drum, bass and guitar with stacks of processed guitar sound, synthesized piano, keyboard loops, strings, and multiple layers of vocals. The innovative writing style of Majority of the Few matches well with the production method of Haggar, who previously worked with the Scissor Sisters and studied under Bob Moog, the inventor of the synthesizer. Rather than renting a studio, Haggar and the band rented equipment and recorded in a spacious house, giving the album a live feel. Additional contributors included Brent Arnold, a cellist who regularly works with top acts on the indie circuit (Modest Mouse and Sleater Kinney among others), and Josh D'Elia, a friend and former bandmate of Finley's. Finley, who plays bass and sings for Majority of the Few, has toured the nation and played in Los Angeles extensively as a drummer. He writes all the band's songs on bass, giving the music a unique twist. Graves employs a unique 'quick twitch' style of drumming that can be directly credited to his profession as a dancer. He is heavily involved in the underground dance scene in LA, and has danced with some of the most well known artists in the world (Miley Cyrus, Rihanna). Graves also created the artwork on the Corollaries album. Corollaries was a labor of love that moved beyond the two musicians and the producer, numerous people contributed behind the scenes The new album and live show should make for a very interesting fall of 2011, and the band is eager to get out on the road.

Aprendí is Volaño's 2nd studio album, and comes after a six-year recording hiatus from Marco Pasillas. Perhaps as a result of having to start again from scratch, Pasillas looked to groovier and earthier compositions, while recruiting Italian composer and keyboardist, Sal Ingrilli for help on the industrial funk of 'Looking for a Fix' and the pulsing, haunting beauty of 'Bane of Silence'. The entire album, in fact, presents a very cohesive-sounding fusion of electronic sounds and traditional acoustic instrumentation. The string arrangements swell on the album opener 'The Mischosen One' and the secularly sacred feelings of 'Need for it Still', whilst instilling a sense of cinematic qualities to the album. Spanish influenced guitar contributions to 'Un Quebrador Asesino' from former Camel Toe bandmate Cel Pasillas, shift the music into a kind of futuristic rumba, complete with bubbling electronic parts and a characteristically expansive Volaño arrangement. Rick Baeza's keyboard solo on the dreamy 'Losing the Fight', round out the outside contributions, which helped fuel the "dis-ambiguous" nature of the lyrical content of most tracks. Pasillas' richly mournful vocals on the equally mournful 'The Elephant Man' closes the record with a sense of wavering dread and excitement that keeps you on edge and finally, let's you go. Aprendí takes creatively inspiring liberties with the base principles of latin, rock, hip-hop and electronic music, fusing these elements into a rich, immersive impression that continues to reveal deeper and more fulfilling nuances with each repeated listen.
