Zoran Music

Fern von aktuellen Zeitströmungen schuf der aus Slowenien stammende Maler und Zeichner Zoran Music (1909-2005) ein ebenso bewegendes wie ungewöhnliches Werk, das sich radikal auf die Reflexion des Inneren beruft. Music war auf der Biennale in Venedig und der documenta vertreten und erhielt zahlreiche internationale Auszeichnungen, darunter den Prix de Paris.Mit 68 Werken aus der Schweizer Sammlung Braglia gibt der Band einen repräsentativen Einblick in Musics OEuvre, das sich durch sparsame Mittel und Konzentration auf wenige Themen auszeichnet: karge Landschaften Dalmatiens und Italiens, helle, leuchtende Veduten seiner Wahlheimat Venedig und dunkle, schemenhafte Menschenbilder. Prägend für Musics Kunst waren seine Erlebnisse im Konzentrationslager Dachau, jene »große Lektion« dank der er »die Wahrheit entdeckte«. Die hier gemachten Erfahrungen setzte er 1970-1975 in seiner berühmten Serie »Wir sind nicht die Letzten« um, ein universelles Zeugnis menschlicher Tragik.

A rich collection of essays tracing the relationship between art and sound. In the 1970s David Toop became preoccupied with the possibility that music was no longer bounded by formalities of audience: the clapping, the booing, the short attention span, the demand for instant gratification. Considering sound and listening as foundational practices in themselves leads music into a thrilling new territory: stretched time, wilderness, video monitors, singing sculptures, weather, meditations, vibration and the interior resonance of objects, interspecies communications, instructional texts, silent actions, and performance art.
