Rampage Nation: Securing America from Mass Shootings , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 601min
In the past decade, no individual act of violence has killed more people in the United States than the mass shooting. This well-researched, forcefully argued book answers some of the most pressing questions facing our society: Why do people go on killing sprees? Are gun-free zones magnets for deadly rampages? What can we do to curb the carnage of this disturbing form of firearm violence? Contrary to conventional wisdom, the author shows that gun possession often prods aggrieved, mentally unstable individuals to go on shooting sprees, these attacks largely occur in places where guns are not prohibited by law, and sensible gun-control measures like the federal Assault Weapons Ban - which helped drastically reduce rampage violence when it was in effect - are instrumental to keeping Americans safe from mass shootings in the future. To stem gun massacres, the author proposes several original policy prescriptions, ranging from the enactment of sensible firearm safety reforms to an overhaul of how the justice system investigates potential active-shooter threats and prosecutes violent crimes. Calling attention to the growing problem of mass shootings, Rampage Nation demonstrates that this unique form of gun violence is more than just a criminal justice offense or public health scourge. It is a threat to American security. PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio. ungekürzt. The Anarchist Cookbook
The Anarchist Cookbook will shock, it will disturb, it will provoke. It places in historical perspective an era when "Turn on, Burn down, Blow up" are revolutionary slogans of the day. Says the author" "This book... is not written for the members of fringe political groups, such as the Weatherman, or The Minutemen. Those radical groups don't need this book. They already know everything that's in here. If the real people of America, the silent majority, are going to survive, they must educate themselves. That is the purpose of this book." In what the author considers a survival guide, there is explicit information on the uses and effects of drugs, ranging from pot to heroin to peanuts. There i detailed advice concerning electronics, sabotage, and surveillance, with data on everything from bugs to scramblers. There is a comprehensive chapter on natural, non-lethal, and lethal weapons, running the gamut from cattle prods to sub-machine guns to bows and arrows. The section on explosives and booby traps ranges from TNT to whistle traps. One hundred and eleven drawings supplement the recipes. "This book is for anarchists," says William Powell, "Those who feel able to discipline themselves on all the subjects from drugs, to weapons, to explosives) that are currently illegal in this country." Techniques, disciplines, precautions, and warnings pervade what may be the most disquieting "how-to" book of contemporary times.- Shop: buecher

How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less (eBook, PDF)
Sarah Glidden is a progressive Jewish American twentysomething who is both vocal about and critical of Israeli politics in the Holy Land. When a debate with her mother prods her to sign up for a Birthright Israel tour, Glidden expects to find objective facts to support her strong opinions. During her two weeks in Israel, Glidden takes advantage of the opportunity to ask the people she meets about the fraught and complex issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but their answers only lead her to question her own take on the conflict. Simple linework and gorgeous watercolors spotlight Israel's countryside, urban landscapes, and religious landmarks. With straightforward sincerity, lovingly observed anecdotes, and a generous dose of self-deprecating humor, How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less is accessible while retaining Glidden's distinctive perspective. Over the course of this touching memoir, Glidden comes to terms with the idea that there are no easy answers to the world's problems, and that is okay. This debut book landed on several best-of-the-year lists, including Entertainment Weekly's; earned a YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens distinction; and won an Ignatz Award. Her second book, Rolling Blackouts, which documents her experience shadowing journalists in Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, will also come out this fall from Drawn & Quarterly.- Shop: buecher

Top Essential Oil Recipes: A Recipe Guide of Natural, Nontoxic Aromatherapy & Essential Oils for Healing Common Ailments, Beauty, Stress & Anxiety , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 71min
To make essential oils, oil need to be extracted from plants. This can be done through expression and distillation. Expression: Also referred as cold pressing, expression is a method used to extract oil from citrus fruits like lime, orange, tangerine, lemon, and bergamot. In the past, expression didn't require any sort of tool except for a sponge. After soaking the citrus rind or zest, it is repeatedly pressed against the sponge to absorb the oil. The sponge is then squeezed over a container to catch the oil, which is allowed to separate from its juices. The oil is siphoned off and bottled after a few hours. A modern type of expression involves using a blender-like device that's equipped with spikes. Once the citrus zest, rind, or peel is placed in the device, it rotates, prods, and pricks the citrus until the oils are released. Oil are collected at the bottom of the device and bottled immediately. Distillation: Most essential oils are extracted using the distillation process. In this process, the plant part is placed on a grid that's inside a container called a still. The still is then sealed. Water, steam, or a water and steam combination swirl inside the sealed still and slowly break down the plant, releasing its volatile components and turn them into steam. These components then rise up and collect in the condenser. Once the condenser is cool, the components revert back to liquid form and are collected in a separate container. Once the essential oil separates from the water, it is siphoned off and stored. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Millian Quinteros. Getting to Us: How Great Coaches Make Great Teams , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 583min
What makes a coach great? How do great coaches turn a collection of individuals into a coherent “us”? Seth Davis, one of the keenest minds in sports journalism, has been thinking about that question for 25 years. It’s one of the things that drove him to write the definitive biography of college basketball’s greatest coach, John Wooden, Wooden: A Coach’s Life. But John Wooden coached a long time ago. The world has changed, and coaching has, too, tremendously. Seth Davis decided to embark on a proper investigation to get to the root of the matter. In Getting to Us, Davis probes and prods the best of the best from the landscape of active coaches of football and basketball, college and pro - from Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, and Jim Harbaugh to Mike Krzyzewski, Tom Izzo, Jim Boeheim, Brad Stevens, Geno Auriemma, and Doc Rivers - to get at the fundamental ingredients of greatness in the coaching sphere. There’s no single right way, of course - part of the great value of this book is Davis’ distillation of what he has learned about different types of greatness in coaching and what sort of leadership thrives in one kind of environment but not in others. Some coaches have thrived at the college level but not in the pros. Why? What’s the difference? Some coaches are stern taskmasters; others are warm and cuddly; some are brilliant strategists but less emotionally involved with their players, and with others it’s vice versa. In Getting to Us, we come to feel a deep connection with the most successful and iconic coaches in all of sports - big winners and big characters whose stories offer much of enduring interest and value. ungekürzt. Man Seeks God: My Flirtations with the Divine , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 742min
Best-selling author of Geography of Bliss returns with this funny, illuminating chronicle of a globe-spanning spiritual quest to find a faith that fits. When a health scare puts him in the hospital, Eric Weiner - an agnostic by default - finds himself tangling with an unexpected question, posed to him by a well-meaning nurse. "Have you found your God yet?" The thought of it nags him, and prods him - and ultimately launches him on a far-flung journey to do just that. Weiner, a longtime "spiritual voyeur" and inveterate traveler, realizes that while he has been privy to a wide range of religious practices, he's never seriously considered these concepts in his own life. Face to face with his own mortality, and spurred on by the question of what spiritual principles to impart to his young daughter, he decides to correct this omission, undertaking a worldwide exploration of religions and hoping to come, if he can, to a personal understanding of the divine. The journey that results is rich in insight, humor, and heart. Willing to do anything to better understand faith, and to find the god or gods that speak to him, he travels to Nepal, where he meditates with Tibetan lamas and a guy named Wayne. He sojourns to Turkey, where he whirls (not so well, as it turns out) with Sufi dervishes. He heads to China, where he attempts to unblock his chi; to Israel, where he studies Kabbalah, sans Madonna; and to Las Vegas, where he has a close encounter with Raelians (followers of the world's largest UFO-based religion). At each stop along the way, Weiner tackles our most pressing spiritual questions: Where do we come from? What happens when we die? How should we live our lives? Where do all the missing socks go? With his trademark wit and warmth, he leaves no stone unturned. At a time when more Americans than ever are choosing a new faith, and when spiritual que ungekürzt. Language: English. Every word was once an animal
Power, Care, ControlYalda Afsah's (b. Berlin, 1983; lives and works in Berlin) films probe the relationship between man and animal, scrutinizing mechanisms of power, care, and control with respect to various forms of domestication and retracing the often blurry boundaries between nurture, solicitousness, and identification with animals on the one hand and discipline, subjugation, and human dominance on the other. Her works confront viewers with an intimate portrait of the mutual dependencies between human and nonhuman protagonists. Never suggesting that a "return" to an ostensibly pristine nature is possible, Afsah instead prods us to negotiate new conceptions of coexistence and conflict. After the German-Iranian artist's work was featured at Manifesta 13, the New York Film Festival, and the Locarno Film Festival, the exhibition Every word was once an animal gathers older and more recent productions to shed light on the disintegrating boundary between nature and culture. Far from being a mere passive object of political influence, nature is a recalcitrant protagonist to the political. The accompanying publication provides a first survey of Afsah's growing oeuvre. In addition to extensive visuals from her videos, the book includes writings by Fahim Amir, Maurin Dietrich, Cathrin Mayer, Gina Merz, and Filipa Ramos.- Shop: buecher
