William Lloyd Garrison: The Life and Legacy of 19th Century America’s Most Prominent Abolitionist , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 103min
Nearly a century after the first unified resistance against the British, strife over slavery widened to the point of civil war, and the condition of slaves in America was in several aspects worse than at any time during the 18th century. As the nation tried to sort out its most intractable political issue, politicians and advocates on each side of the divide became increasingly more passionate, and vocal. The dam would burst completely after Abraham Lincoln’s election in 1860, and the refusal of Northern states to strictly apply the new fugitive slave law would be explicitly cited in several of the Southern states’ articles of secession in late 1860 and early 1861. By April 1861, the Civil War had broken out.Well before Lincoln and the “Black Republicans” were cited by secessionist firebrands looking to justify their stances, one of the men they most bitterly opposed was abolitionist editor William Lloyd Garrison. While many begin their adult lives with very strident views and then mellow over time, he did just the opposite. Raised by a pious single mother, he embraced the general teachings of the Christian faith as a young man, and in his 20s, he became convicted that slavery was the greatest moral evil in the nation. Thereafter, he devoted most of his life to seeing it ended, and he refused to give an inch in the name of compromise on the things he felt strongly about. As he famously put it, “With reasonable men, I will reason; with humane men I will plead; but to tyrants I will give no quarter, nor waste arguments where they will certainly be lost.” At the same time, while he held unshakable convictions and never wavered in giving voice to them, he was just as comfortable around people who did not share his religious background, so long as they stood with him against America’s “peculiar institution”. This put him in the company of many like-minded people, some of whom he helped organize and publicize through various organizations and publications ungekürzt. Language: English. Toxic Life: The Power of Living Forward and Letting Go of Difficult People and Relationships Through Christian Living , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 188min
This Christian healing audiobook delves into the negative and downright devastating events that occur in our lives that break our faithful hearts and trample our spirits, but it won’t be man-made wisdom pellets being handed out here. This is a Christian journey to find God in the midst of our sorrow. We will take a walk in the shoes of Job, a man who suffered devastating losses simultaneously but never once stopped giving God praise and glory. We will look at why sometimes we don’t understand God in the midst of our tribulations but how to trust him anyway. We will explore what the Bible says about how to deal with emotions, recognizing the toxic people in our lives and how to show them the exit sign, finding freedom by letting go of past hurt and disappointment and discovering how to grow through and from your pain. I have been through my share of disappointments and devastations, but I wouldn’t have come out on the other side without a faithful father to see me through. He has shown me his promises that continually prove his love and divine will, and he has shown me how to find my purpose in pain. He wants you to find his promises and his purpose for your life, too. When standing on the other end of the most difficult times in our lives, you can be sure God will use those experiences as teachable moments somewhere down the road. The lessons that each of us learns might not be the same, but God will often give insight on how a particular circumstance in our past is helping to shape our future and how it might help shape someone else’s, as well. There is great power in testimony, so if we can share the testimony of how God transformed our lives despite walking through dark and challenging times, it could inspire or give hope to someone else who is still in the thick of their hardship. Even though my losses and tragedies were a time when my faith suffered the most, I can look back now to see God’s faithfulness never wavered. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott R. Smith.
