The reputation of the financial industry could hardly be worse than it is today in the painful aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. New York Times best-selling economist Robert Shiller is no apologist for the sins of finance - he is probably the only person to have predicted both the stock market bubble of 2000 and the real estate bubble that led up to the subprime mortgage meltdown. But in this important and timely book, Shiller argues that, rather than condemning finance, we need to reclaim it for the common good. He makes a powerful case for recognizing that finance, far from being a parasite on society, is one of the most powerful tools we have for solving our common problems and increasing the general well-being. We need more financial innovation - not less - and finance should play a larger role in helping society achieve its goals. Challenging the public and its leaders to rethink finance and its role in society, Shiller argues that finance should be defined not merely as the manipulation of money or the management of risk, but as the stewardship of society's assets. He explains how people in financial careers - from CEO, investment manager, and banker to insurer, lawyer, and regulator - can (and do) manage, protect, and increase these assets. He describes how finance has historically contributed to the good of society through inventions such as insurance, mortgages, savings accounts, and pensions, and argues that we need to envision new ways to rechannel financial creativity to benefit society as a whole. Ultimately, Shiller shows how society can once again harness the power of finance for the greater good. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Walter Dixon. Demons: What are They? How Do They Operate? And How Do One Cast Them Out? Many years ago, famous Christian Apologist, C.S. Lewis said, "There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors…” It’s been decades since he said that, but the church is still battling with these equal and opposite extremes. We have people who believe that demons and deliverance teachings and practices are a wish-wash emotional razzmatazz used to fleece people into an undue advantage. They believe that once we become New Creatures, those old things are passed away. That demons have no more power over the believer’s life. That all we need to do daily is to renew our minds and live holy to please the Lord. On the other hand, there are those who practically live, talk, and smell demons. It’s all about demons and nothing else. They believe that all their problems in life are from demons. They spend hours binding and casting demons, running to and fro for one deliverance or the other. This audiobook provides the right balance needed to deal with demons, overcome them and live a victorious life. Though a Bible Study material used in the ministry, this book will help you with a biblical guide to demons. Here's what you'll learn: What are demons? How did demons originate? Are there Old Testament references of demons? What did Jesus say about demons? Can we recognize demons by their names or their works? What do demons do?How do demons operate? What is demonic possession? What is demonic oppression? What is deliverance? Can Christians have demons in them? How can I know if I or someone have demon? When does one need deliverance?li ungekürzt. The Conversation: An Intimate Journal of the Emmaus Encounter is a unique and riveting reconstruction from the unnamed disciple’s account found in Luke 24 regarding his journey with Cleopas on the road to Emmaus after witnessing Jesus’s crucifixion and burial, along with hearing claims of His empty tomb. Suddenly, a Stranger begins walking with them. With their eyes "prevented" from recognizing Him as the risen Lord Jesus Christ - Yeshua the Messiah, their new, wise Traveling Companion correlates the Old Covenant Scriptures, by way of Moses and the prophets, with what they witnessed. This journal is your opportunity to eavesdrop and learn what that conversation might have been like, as pertinent prophecies unfold revealing evidence that the Messiah’s suffering, death, burial, and resurrection were, in fact, specifically foretold. "The Conversation brings to life that famous encounter between the two disciples and our Lord Jesus on the road to Emmaus. While it is based in part on an imaginative reconstruction, it is filled with the throbbing pulse of the excitement of the sensational impact that our Lord’s resurrection should have on all of our lives." - Dr. Walter C. Kaiser, Jr., president emeritus, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary "This little book does a big thing. It takes the age-old truths of the prophetic accuracy of the Bible and communicates it in an appealing literary format. In so doing, it portrays one of the great apologetic tools of the Christian faith in an engaging and readable form." - Dr. Norman Geisler, distinguished professor of apologetics, Veritas Evangelical Seminary "I found The Conversation remarkable and riveting. [Judy Salisbury] did a fantastic job with the Scriptures, networking them all together with profound significance - the mark of a seasoned apologist. The book, as a whole, is fascinating, captivating, eye-opening, and doctrinally sound." - Jennifer Sands, 9/11 ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steve Cook. This oldest of the extant Apocryphal Gospels claims to have been written by James (the Just) in Jerusalem. It was first published in the Latin version of Postellus in 1552. It exists in numerous Greek mss., the best of which is said to be one of the 10th century. The Syriac versions are older, and, with occasional abbreviations, agree fairly with the Greek text, and with one another. The fragment translated by Dr. Wright is supposed to belong to the sixth century; the text on the palimpsest of Mrs. Lewis is referred to the fifth or sixth century. The Gospel in its present form can hardly (notwithstanding Tischendorf) be put earlier than the third century; but the older form lying behind it certainly goes back to the second century. Coincidences are noted between the Gospel and Justin Martyr (A.D. 150) which, in the opinion of good scholars, point to its use by that apologist (cp. Sanday on The Gospels in the Second Century). Origen refers to the Book of James in proof that Joseph had sons by a former wife (in Matt. tom. x. 17); and the connection with the Protevangelium is not disproved by the fact that elsewhere he gives a different account of the death of Zacharias (in Matt. Tract. 25). The contents of the Gospel show it to have been partly based on the narratives of the Nativity in Matthew and Luke. That in its present form it is composite seems evident from chap. xviii., which is put in the first person into the mouth of Joseph, and is extravagant in its style of description. On the ground of this chapter one is tempted to suspect an origin in Essenian-Ebionitic circles. Either in its present or in an earlier shape it formed the basis of the writing afterwards to be mentioned - the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew, and through it of the later Nativity of Mary. A prominent motive of the composer is obviously to exalt the virginity of Mary. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Wayne Jones.
