David Kim Violinist David Kim was named Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999. Prior to this position, he was the Senior Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony. Born in Carbondale, Illinois, he started playing the violin at the age of three, began studies with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of eight, and later received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School. As a 12-year old Mr. Kim appeared with Itzhak Perlman as the subject of 'Prodigy', a WNEW-TV (New York) production. In 1986 he was the only American violinist to win a prize at the famed International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, where he was prominently featured in a documentary detailing the competition. Mr. Kim performs extensively throughout the world both with The Philadelphia Orchestra and as guest soloist with numerous other orchestras. He has collaborated with many highly regarded conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanyi, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Peter Oundjian, and Wolfgang Sawallisch. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Kim founded and is artistic director of the Kingston Chamber Music Festival at the University of Rhode Island. In conjunction with the festival, Mr. Kim founded an annual outreach program that has taken him to elementary schools, performing and speaking about classical music in an effort to cultivate future audiences. To date, he has performed for well over 12,000 young people in the State of Rhode Island. In 2001, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts from the University of Rhode Island. Mr. Kim resides in a suburb of Philadelphia with his wife Jane and daughters Natalie and Margaret. He and his family are active members of Renewal Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia. He is an avid golfer, wine lover, and sports fan. ----------------- Gail Niwa Gail Niwa's 'brilliant insights' and 'power, eloquence and striking sound color' have made her an audience favorite throughout the world. In 1991 Ms. Niwa created a sensation by becoming the first woman ever to win the Gold Medal at the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. She was also awarded the Audience Prize and the Chamber Music Prize. Ms. Niwa has also won major prizes in the International Chopin Competition, the Mae Whitaker Competition and the Washington International Competition. Ms. Niwa won high praise for her New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall, and her recitals at Orchestra Hall in Chicago on the Allied Arts Piano Series and at the Ambassador Auditorium's Gold Medal Series in Pasadena. She also received outstanding reviews for her solo appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in February 1995, performing the Schumann Piano Concerto with Sir Georg Solti conducting. Twenty-three-year-old Josef Špacek ranks among the foremost representatives of today's young Czech violin generation. A rising global virtuoso, Mr. Špacek has performed throughout the Czech Republic and abroad in Germany, France, Great Britain, Poland, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, China, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States. Additionally, he has won numerous national and international competitions, including the grand prize at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in June 2009 and third prize at the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in 2008. As a soloist, Mr. Špacek has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, the Czech Chamber Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic, the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic, the Russian Chamber Philharmonic, and many others. He has soloed under numerous conductors, including Christoph Eschenbach, Asher Fisch, Jiri Belohlavek, Roy Goodman, Jakub Hrusa, Aleksandar Markovic, and Rossen Milanov. Sebastian See-Schierenberg-Violin Alfredo Oygez-Piano
Sebastian See-Schierenbert, a British violinist of Chinese and German descent, grew up in a family of artists and musicians. Sebastian first discovered his love of the violin at the age of 6 and commenced his studies soon after, giving his first public performance at the age of 9. Thereafter he performed widely throughout the UK. He was awarded a Scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London at the age of 16, where he studied with Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky. There he won a number of prestigious prizes and on graduating gave his Southbank recital debut. Sebastian followed further studies in Germany with Professor Valery Klimov and also at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Russia with Professor Maya Glissarova. On returning to the UK, Sebastian started coming to the attention of eminent musicians such as Tadaaki Otaka, Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra, who at a competition in the UK described Sebastian's playing as 'So beautiful. So, so sweet', and awarded him the First Prize. Others like violinists Igor Oistrakh and Rodney Friend were likewise impressed, and soon after, he embarked on an extensive musical journey which would take him to many countries in Europe, America and Asia. Sebastian has held teaching posts at the Trinity College of Music London, the Lisbon Orchestral Academy and the Malaysian Philharmonic Music Chambers. He is regularly invited by leading universities and schools throughout Asia to give masterclasses and recitals. Pianist Alfredo Oyaguez, is a graduate of Yale University, where he earned a Master of Music degree, studying piano with Professor Boris Berman. He also completed a Master of Music degree in Conducting with Professor Heiichiro Ohyama, as well as later studying piano performance with Professor Paul Berkowitz at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was the Associate Conductor and General Manager of the UCSB Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theater, and a Lecturer for the Conducting Department at the UCSB Department of Music. He was also a member of the ensemble for contemporary music for 5 years as a pianist and conductor. Alfredo has performed extensively in Europe and the United States as a soloist, recitalist, chamber music pianist and Vocal accompanist recording for the Spanish National Radio, Radio France, Polish Radio and Television, KDB, Santa Barbara, California and The Danish National Radio P2. Alfredo lives in Mallorca and Copenhagen. He is on the Faculty of the Palma Conservatory of Music in Spain, and serves as the Artistic Director of the Deià International Music Festival and the Director and Founding member of the Camerata Deià. He is also a faculty member of the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in Italy.
