Is Lasting Weight Loss Possible? This book gives practical steps to show you how to ditch traditional diets and step into your personal forever lifestyle change plan. Many ask, “Is weight loss possible for me?”   Teresa Shields Parker’s answer may surprise you. “It is possible, but only if you don’t go on another diet!” Teresa has lost over 250 pounds and kept it off since 2013. She says lasting change happens when we go through God’s process.   This leads to total transformation - body, soul, and spirit. Weight loss isn’t a piece of cake, though. Have you reached a weight loss goal only to put that weight right back on - plus more? Anyone who has struggled with losing weight knows there are no regimens, pills, or diets that give lasting results. However, when you rely on God’s strength, Teresa says, “Weight loss will be the easiest hard thing you’ve ever done!”   Teresa Shields Parker is a well-known Christian weight loss coach and author of five books and two study guides. This book is based on her popular course where many have found their path to transformation. Some of their stories are included as testimonies in this book.   The course has been a lifesaver for many who thought they could never get victory over their food addictions. Sweet Journey is perfect companion for her other books, especially Sweet Grace: How I Lost 250 Pounds and Stopped Trying to Earn God's Favor, which is still the number one Christian weight loss memoir. I pretended to be the girlfriend of one of the richest men in New York City. It was only meant to be the one time. I mean it was the week before Christmas, I was shopping with my best friend and we were hungry and wanted to dine at the new swanky restaurant on the upper west side. For some reason the hostess misheard me when I mentioned Max Parker’s name. I’d been complaining that he was the reason why I’d lost my job. Who was I to correct her when it meant that “my relationship” had caused a table to suddenly open up? And then the next week I accidentally let it slip that Max Parker was my boyfriend to get into an exclusive club. And then there was the time when I saw that Chanel handbag and Prada shoes. I mean, it didn’t really hurt anyone, did it? It was just a little white lie. How was I to know that my fake boyfriend would find out that I’d been using his name? Now he’s blackmailing me into playing his fake fiancé in an arrangement that could only be classed as risqué. Turns out if I want to keep my bookstore open, I’m going to have to play along with his game. Only he’s going to have to go along with the rules in my dating handbook and while he smirks at that idea he doesn’t know that I’ve got a plan of my own. ungekürzt. Language: English. This remarkable book is the only novel by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926), the greatest German-language poet of his time. It is, in a sense, a true curiosity - dark and intense - and possesses, not surprisingly, strong elements of autobiography. The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge (Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge) has even been described as an anti-novel. It is set in Paris in the period just before the First World War, but it presents a bleaker milieu than that described by Proust. The language is terse, the atmosphere painful, the images uncompromising. Rilke drew on the short period he spent in Paris in 1903 where, in contrast to the rural circumstances in which he had lived before, he found the underbelly of urban life distressing. He saw the sick, the vagrants, the beggars and those descending into mental and emotional confusion and despair. And he worried that he, too, might become like them. This is the theme he explores in The Notebooks in a first-person torrent of observation and reflection. Malte, a young Dane with little money but with the aspiration to be a poet, expresses a continuing uncertainty and unease, in the form of a diary, without obvious timeline or direction, except for its increasing intensity. Published in 1910, The Notebooks is a striking contrast to the crafted, polished poetry for which Rilke was better known. It has affected and been admired by many writers since, including Jean-Paul Sartre. Jamie Parker’s reading underpins the fear and the tension of the work.  Translation William Needham. ungekürzt. When does freedom go too far? Doctor Rowena Halley has finally found a job that pays enough to live on. Too bad it’s a continent away from one of the men in her life, and an ocean away from the other. Plus, the campus she’s teaching at is not the idyllic haven it seems. There are the usual problems of academia: busywork, embarrassing extracurricular activities, a difficult department chair. And then there’s real danger. A Gamergate activist has been invited to speak at the college, and a campus men’s rights group has threatened to protest the event. Are the rumors of violence swirling around the speaker “just talk”, or are they going to become action? When Rowena gets drawn into organizing the event, she is called on to find out before something tragic happens. Her dive into the campus’ incel culture just threatens to stir the pot, though. Rowena is worried that she’s going to lose her job. With tensions on campus running this high, however, it may be more than her contract that is terminated. The college is concerned about freedom of speech. Rowena is concerned about the freedom to stay alive. Combining suspense, dark humor, and a touch of romance, Trigger Warning is a sharply satirical examination of modern higher ed reminiscent of Robert B. Parker’s investigations into the dark side of contemporary college life, written by someone with years of experience in the trenches of academia. Content warning: Along with the kind of adult language you should expect from mouthy undergrads and battle-scarred Iraq vets, this book also contains a serious discussion of bullying, incel culture, and gun violence. You’ve been warned. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sid Stark. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/206928/bk_acx0_206928_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Sailing back from Maine, Sam Acquillo, his girlfriend, Amanda Anselma, and screwball mutt Eddie Van Halen get blown off course by a dangerous gale. With damaged boat and frayed nerves, they limp into the closest harbor, which happens to be on Fishers Island, New York, a distant and altogether disassociated scrap of Long Island. A summer preserve for the oldest old money in America, it is defended by year-round denizens who safeguard their island’s insularity with xenophobic fervor. Sam and Amanda are hardly welcomed with open arms, unless they’re the arms of the young and beautiful Anika Fey, daughter of the owner of the Black Swan, the island’s only hotel, who’s only too eager to fold Sam into her embrace. But feminine wiles aren’t the only hazard faced by Sam and Amanda. They’re soon swept up in big-money intrigue, dark conspiracy, brutality, murder, and the machinations of high-tech millionaires, to say nothing of the autumn storms that lash the island with wind and wave. In the years since losing everything, Sam has fought his way back to an existence that even he believes is worth preserving. And now, bad timing and a broken rudder could result in the greatest loss of all - his life. Chris Knopf's four Sam Acquillo mysteries have received exceptional accolades, with critics likening Sam to Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade, Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe, and Robert Parker’s Spenser, while repeatedly comparing Knopf to Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald, and Ross Macdonald. A sailor, cabinet maker, and advertising executive in Connecticut, he and his wife also spend a lot of time at their Southampton home. ungekürzt. Language: English. Her family was happy to be chosen by Pioneer to join such an lovely gated neighborhood. Here, life seems perfect. But after meeting Cody, an outsider boy, Lyla starts questioning Pioneer, her friends, her family - everything. And if there's one thing not allowed in the Community, it's doubt. As Pioneer cleverly manipulates his flock toward disaster, the real question is: Will Lyla follow her heart or follow Pioneer over the edge? From the outside looking in, it's hard to understand why anyone would join a cult. But Gated tells the story from the inside looking out, and from behind the gates things are not quite so simple. Amy Christine Parker's beautiful writing creates a chilling, utterly unique YA story. Perfect for fans of creepy thrillers and contemporary fiction alike."A tense psychological thriller that will leave you gasping for breath as you race to the very last page." (Gretchen McNeil, author of Ten)"When I found out that there was a YA book about cults, of course I had to read it. As it turns out, Amy Christine Parker’s Gated is an awesome, creepy book that reminds me of my favorite cult films while still being surprising." (HelloGiggles.com)"Parker doesn’t pull punches, indicating a level of brutality that will appropriately disturb even as it successfully conveys Lyla’s complete entrapment in the Community. Compelling and not that distant from real-world cults that have ended in tragedy." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)"Parker skillfully explores the mindset and inner workings of an apocalyptic cult, steadily building toward the inevitable moment of truth.... As for the apocalypse itself, Parker keeps things suitably ambiguous, resulting in a complex, intriguing tale rooted in real-world events. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Alicyn Packard.
