Todestages des Komponisten (26.03.1927) produziert und ist ein schönes Beispiel früher medialer Verwertung populärer Künstlerbiographien. Er entstand im Sommer 1926 in den Listo-Film-Ateliers in Wien-Schönbrunn und erlebte am 18. Februar 1927 seine Kino-Premiere. Als eine besondere Qualität stellte die zeitgenössische österreichische Presse heraus, dass der Film an Original-Schauplätzen entstand, womit nur das Schloss Schönbrunn gemeint sein kann.Die filmische Erzählung beginnt mit Beethovens Kindheit in Bonn und seinem Musikstudium bei Joseph Haydn in Wien. Im weiteren Verlauf zeichnet sie das Bild eines produktiven Komponisten, der zeit seines Lebens in unglücklichen Liebesgeschichten verfangen ist. Vor allem die Begegnung mit Giulietta Guiccardi, die als wenig talentierte Klavierschülerin den Komponisten halb in den Wahnsinn treibt, wird im Film ausführlich geschildert, hier baut der Film eine reine Kino-Fiktion auf. Als konstanter Förderer tritt hingegen, wie es der Realbiographie entspricht, der Musik-Mäzen Fürst Lichnowsky auf. Großen Raum nimmt die Schilderung seines fatalen Gehörleidens ein, das Beethoven im Alter von 28 Jahren ereilt und das ihn in eine schwere persönliche Krise stürzt. Er wird zunehmend misanthropisch und zieht sich immer mehr in die Welt seiner Klänge zurück, bis er im Alter von 57 Jahren stirbt.Die restaurierte Fassung stammt aus dem Filmarchiv Austria und ist die französische Exportversion, die in ihrer Textgestalt auch Romain Rolland zitiert, der die französische Beethoven-Rezeption wesentlich geprägt hat. Diese um 10 Minuten gekürzte französische Version ist die einzige erhaltene Fassung des Films. Die verloren gegangene Originalfassung mit dem Untertitel ‚Zum Gedächtnis des 100jährigen Todestages des Sängers der Ewigkeit‘ hatte eine Länge von 80 Minuten und ging ausführlicher auf die Werke der großen Schaffensphase (5. und 9. Sinfonie) ein. Wie der Vergleich mit der erhaltenen deutschen Zulassungskarte erkennen lässt, existierte in der Originalfassung noch eine Sequenz über die von starken biographischen Krisen erschütterten späteren Jahre, in denen u.a. die Schicksals-Sinfonie entstand. Ein weiterer Exkurs beschäftigte sich mit Kerker-Szene aus Fidelio, quasi eine Visualisierung der Lebenssituation des Komponisten und seiner zunehmenden Ertaubung.Beethoven im KinoAlles in allem ist dieser österreichische Film ein anschauliches Beispiel für die Entwicklung des Beethoven-Bildes in der Populärkultur zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts: vom Genie zum unglücklichen Liebhaber, der sein Liebesleid in seinem künstlerischen Schaffen kompensiert. In der deutschen Zulassungskarte findet sich der interessante Hinweis auf einen Prolog, den es offenbar in großen Kinosälen auf der Filmbühne gab und der aus einem Brief von Beethoven an Erzherzog Rudolph zitiert: „Höheres gibt es nichts, als der Gottheit sich mehr als andere Menschen nähern und von hier aus die Strahlen der Gottheit unter dem Menschengeschlecht verbreiten.“ Beethoven als Prometheus, so wurde das ganze 19. Jahrhundert hindurch die Bedeutung von Beethoven – wie sonst nur die Leistung von Goethe – gewürdigt und legte gerade in Deutschland eine Tradition der ‚Gottbegnadeten‘ fest. Das Kino der Stummfilmzeit geht da leichtfertiger mit dem Geniebegriff um und erfindet Frauengeschichten rings um den angeblich misanthropischen Beethoven. In dieser Manier ist auch der 1950 österreichische Film ‚Eroica‘ von Karl Hartl gehalten, voll Pathos schildert der Film Beethoven als Titan und verpasst ihm zugleich das Gewand des ungeschickten Liebhabers. Es war anderen Genies des Films wie dem französischen Regisseur Abel Gance vorbehalten, eine adäquate filmische Adaption von Beethovens Leben im Jahr 1938 mit Harry Bauer in der Titelrolle zu inszenieren, während in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts eher die Dekonstruktion des Geniebegriffs angesagt war. Zum Beethoven-Jahr 1970 entstand Maurizio Kagels Film ‚Ludwig van‘, „… eine aggressive Kritik an allem, was sich bis dahin an Beethovenkult entwickelt hat. Dabei nimmt der Film weder auf Empfindlichkeiten des Publikums Rücksicht noch auf dessen Ermüdungstoleranz: wenn etwa in Dieter Rots ‚Badezimmer‘ eine zerbröckelnde Fettbüste Beethovens nach der anderen aus der Badewanne geholt und der Kamera vorgehalten wird … Mag manche Kritik an ‚Ludwig van‘ durchaus berechtigt sein, so bestätigt eine Äußerung wie die von Hilde Spiel in der FAZ ‚zwei- bis dreitausend Jahre mühsamen Aufstiegs in eine Begriffswelt, der Beethovens Musik Ausdruck gegeben hat, werden geleugnet‘ genau jenen Beethovenkult, den Kagel angreift.“ (Helmut Loos, Programmheft zu einer Beethoven-Filmreihe im Kulturforum Bonn 1986).Insgesamt entstanden seit 1913 ca. 30 Filme, die sich mit der Beethoven-Biographie oder seinen Werken beschäftigen. BIOGRAPHY-ROBIN BANK$ ROBIN BANK$ is a blues singer/songwriter whose bittersweet voice and sassy, sultry performances have captivated audiences since the early 90s. Having been raised a mere 50 miles from Detroit, she instantly fell in love with Soul and Motown music. She studied jazz in college and in 1992 she formed The ROBIN BANK$ Blues Band and has since performed at clubs and festivals throughout much of the U.S. and Canada. In 1996 she released her debut CD Permanent Record which received international airplay and accolades. That release led to her winning the award for New Artist of the Year at the 1997 Mapleblues Awards. The following year she was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. ROBIN relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1999 and reformed her band with some of the area's finest musicians. In 2001, she recorded her second CD Honestly which features Dallas Blues artists including the great Sam Myers, Hash Brown, Pat Boyack, Randy McAllister, Holland K. Smith and others. October 2002 marked the birth of ROBIN BANK$ 3rd recorded effort, ROBIN BANK$ LIVE After Dark which features Hash Brown, Christian Dozzler, Drew Allain and Marc Wilson. It also includes many Chicago Blues standards by Jimmie Rogers, Willie Dixon, Robert Lockwood Jr. as well as ROBIN BANK$ original material. The CD is an outstanding live recording of a performance caught on tape at After Dark, a Dallas nightclub. The ROBIN BANK$ Blues Band performs some 240 nights each year internationally. In 2002 ROBIN BANK$ was nominated for Blues Band of the Year at the Dallas Music Awards. In the spring of 2003 ROBIN BANK$ performed to several satisfied and sold out audiences throughout Belgium and Holland. This marked the beginning of her professional European career. Imported from the UK Riding on the wave of much critical acclaim due to a healthy back catalogue of material and recent bout of successful solo performances, Rita Lynch is again at the forefront of Bristol's music scene with All Dressed Up. With open wounds and a sound that recalls PJ Harvey's earlier works where vocals fall between intense rage and soothing beauty (Far Away) yet still bordering on a raw, jagged edge (I'll Never Let You Go) complemented by the frenetic and, when called upon, restrained musicianship of her band, Rita's latest, and best album-to-date definitely lives up to her live billing. All Dressed Up builds with a brooding intensity before launching into a full-on shuffling drum beat and forceful guitars that propel this opener to a climatic finish with brakes just about bringing things to a halt and Rita in vociferous mood: 'All dressed up I got no where to go, all dressed up I got no where to go.' Without a moment's hesitation the blistering tempo continues through O God Above, the speeding frenzy of Cry at Night, and the honest revelations of Jesus Converts bringing to mind the live wire energy of recent press darlings At The Drive-In. Elsewhere, the lyrical content is particularly scathing as former lovers are reminded of the scars they have left: 'I just serve, serve, serve, serve. Go lose your dignity to some little girl...Keep a hold of all your grudges let them see you through your life cos my man makes love a disease.' However, it is the arresting nature of the vocal that captures the imagination as Rita Lynch soars between moments of loss and despair (Over You) yet still managing to assert a sense of authority as her vocal intoxicates every inch of this album. The haunting finale of Beautiful Eyes is a prime example with it's subtle undercurrent of bitter resentment being a parting shot. Surprise Inside
There is a range of emotion and styles on this album. I arranged the order to try and take you through my head in a sense. There are silly songs, serious songs, acoustic, electronic, and I featured as many of my talented friends as possible.
