Spirit of the Soul
Michael's introduction to music began with classical and jazz accordion lessons. Over the course of his years, Michael played in various Cleveland local rock-and-roll bands as a drummer, guitarist (bass), and vocalist. Spirit of the Soul, which took him two years to write and record, is an innovative intergration of jazz, classical and rock with ethnic flavors that defies categorization or labels. He states, the CD is the expression of his deep feeling that there are no true boundaries in life and that all things are possible. His piano playing style is similar to Elton John and Billy Joel. Growing up as an accordian player he was able to teach himself how to play the piano. He has a pretty wicked left hand and his right hand flies over the keys, sometimes it sounds like two people playing the piano. Michael is unorthodox in his playing, as he attacks the piano. As he states, 'I do not play sominex music. I want people to feel energized. I give everything I have when I play.' When he plays out, fans have told him he's 'better than Tesh, Brickman and Yanni.' Summing up Michael's creative process, he says it's a matter of 'making my body do what my mind is hearing.
