Christopher Columbus: A Captivating Guide to the Life of an Italian Explorer and His Voyages to the Americas , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 105min
If you want to discover the captivating life of Christopher Columbus, then pay attention....Christopher Columbus was one of the most courageous of the world’s explorers. He embraced risk in an era when the blinding expanse of the Atlantic Ocean frightened the Europeans. The cartography of the day was incorrect, as he learned through bitter experience. Columbus is credited with the discovery of America but never realized it during his lifetime. His career as a navigator was peppered with mishaps that shattered the ignorance of the age. Although he was no scientist, Columbus initiated new fields of study and analysis. In 1492, he landed at San Salvador in the Islands of the Bahamas, and he was the first European to have explored the Caribbean Sea. He was the first European to set foot in Cuba, Haiti, and Trinidad, as well as the countries in Central America. Columbus’s voyages astonished all of Europe and started a virtual stampede of competitors in search of the East Indies by sailing west. His life was fraught with adversities such as betrayal and character assassination. It still is today. However, his loyalty cannot be assailed, and few have recognized that fact. The life of Christopher Columbus is a fascinating portrayal of a man whose ego was greater than his common sense. His brand of reckless abandon makes Olympic champions out of foolhardy amateurs. This is the story of a man devoted to a goal he was willing to pursue or die trying. And, tragically, he did die trying. The Pharsalia , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 639min
If you had been a court poet during the reign of the Roman emperor Nero, irritating the megalomaniac ruler would not have been wise. And one of the things which would have really angered Nero would have been the effort to write an epic poem about the struggle between Pompey and Caesar in which the noble hero (portrayed by Pompey) was the man who fought to preserve the Republic, and the selfish villain (portrayed by Caesar), the man who destroyed it. Yet Lucan wrote just such a poem, and Nero, naturally, hated both poem and poet. To the educated Roman of the mid-first century AD, the young Lucan probably appeared amazingly foolhardy. Naturally, his epic work got him into trouble. The poem abruptly breaks off in the middle of the 10th book. It was never finished because Lucan was ordered to commit suicide or face execution. He took poison. Nero's ire is easy to understand. Idle talk about restoring the Republic had been making the rounds for quite some time, and the ruling Julio-Claudian dynasty did not want such talk taken seriously. Besides, the average Roman citizen was primarily interested in economic and political stability. Any discussion of the old Republic conjured up evil memories of earlier civil wars. But the brash young poet went right ahead and produced a minor masterpiece recounting the clash between Julius Caesar and the Republican aristocracy. Lucan called it "De Bello Civili" ("On the Civil War"). Later, it came to be called "The Pharsalia", the name of the battle where Pompey met defeat. With soaring rhetoric, thundering speeches, cataclysmic scenes of war, and beautifully written passages full of the pathos of life and love, Lucan has left us an unfinished gem from Latin literature's Silver Age. ungekürzt. The Spanking Retreat: Charlie Insists upon a Weekend of Multiple Spankings to Correct Lydia's Recent Habitual Misbehavior: The Discipline for a Lasting Marriage Series, Book 16 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 182min, (USK 18)
Upon Charlie and Lydia's return from Waikiki, Charlie needs to leave town again briefly to take his mother to the doctor in Chicago. In his absence, Lydia signs up for skydiving classes despite such activity being forbidden under their spanking contract. Then, during a welcome-home party for Charlie, Lydia goes swimming while intoxicated, a huge issue after what happened in Waikiki. Rather than admitting she did something foolish in both instances, Lydia behaves defiantly with Charlie. He finally confronts her about what he sees as a yearlong deterioration in showing good judgment, not doing dangerous things, and exercising self-discipline. His suggestion for dealing with the recent, habitual misbehavior is a 48-hour "spanking retreat", during which Lydia must consent at his discretion to numerous daily "just-because" spankings to correct her misbehavior and get her back to acting in a much less foolhardy way. Knowing she's behaved in an increasingly reckless, dangerous, and defiant way over the past year and admitting she doesn't know why she's suddenly rebelling against a kind of marriage she still wants (a "spanking marriage"), Lydia agrees to take the 48-hour spanking retreat at their Michigan cabin. Even though it will mean submitting to the equivalent of a "just-because" weekend, where Charlie can and will spank her at his discretion to give her a long-lasting attitude adjustment. Note: This audiobook contains vivid descriptions of sexual activity, domestic discipline, the spankings of an adult woman, anal sex, and anal discipline. If such scenes or themes offend or trigger you, please do not listen to this audiobook. In addition, the series is also about two devoted married people growing and maturing together over the course of multiple story lines; they are flawed, loving, devoted human beings, and therefore make mistakes they try to correct. If you are looking for perfect people, look elsewhere. Finally, please note that an ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tobias King. Stock Trading Strategies Using Machine Learning: A Comprehensive Guide on How to Use Machine Learning to Enhance Your Stock Investment , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 99min
Do you want to know how to use machine learning to determine value of current Stocks? Do you want to know how to use machine learning to enhance your stock investment? Do you want to know how to use machine learning to develop a trading strategy for Stocks? Stock market investing can be fun, interesting, and exciting! Remember that knowledge is power. By listening to this book, you are taking the first step on your journey to becoming a successful investor. Nearly every single time on the markets, those who are educated on how the markets operate are the winners. My aim is to allow you the chance to take the wheel in your own hands and direct your ship in this veritable ocean of financial information. You definitely will not learn all that you need to learn - it would be foolhardy of me to make this claim - but you can be assured that after going through this, you will definitely have the knowledge to make smarter decisions for yourself with regard to gaining wealth in the financial markets. I would have to say that if you can get machine learning algorithm to work for you, it will be revolutionary to how you handle stocks. In fact, if machine-learning proves to be extremely successful, I think that the average person will begin to engage themselves more with the stock market. A huge barrier with the stock market is simply understanding how it works and it is not easy to find resources that are willing to divulge this information to you. I find this to be ironic because the more people that are in the stock market, the more money that can be made. If the stock market only had one person in it, it wouldn't make any money. However, because millions of people around the world are playing the stock market game, billions to trillions are traded annually. This book will show you: Fundamentals of stocks investing Using machine learning to develop a trading strategy for stocks The ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: William Bahl. Shaman's Crossing: The Soldier Son Trilogy, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1264min
Young Nevare Burvelle is the second son of a second son. Traditionally in Gernia, the firstborn son is heir to the family fortunes, the second son bears a sword and the third son is consecrated to the priesthood. Nevare will follow his father - newly made a lord by the King - into the cavalry; to the frontier and thence to an advantageous marriage, to carry on the Burvelle name. It is a golden future, and Nevare looks forward to it with relish. For twenty years King Troven's cavalry have pushed the frontiers of Gernia out across the grasslands, subduing the fierce tribes of the plain on its way. Now they have driven the frontier as far as the Barrier Mountains, home to the enigmatic Speck people. The Specks - a dapple-skinned, forest-dwelling folk - retain the last vestiges of magic in a world which is becoming progressive and technologized. The 'civilised' peoples base their beliefs on a rational philosophy founded on scientific principle and a belief in the good god, who displaced the older deities of their world. To them, the Specks are primeval savages, little better than beasts. Superstitions abound; it is said that they harbour strange diseases and worship trees. Sexual congress with them is regarded as both filthy and foolhardy: the Speck plague which has ravaged the frontier has decimated entire regiments. All these beliefs will touch Nevare's training at the Academy; but his progress there is not as simple as he would wish. He will experience prejudice from the old aristocracy: as the son of a 'new noble' he is segregated into a patrol comprising other new nobles' sons, all of whom will encounter injustice, discrimination and foul play in that hostile and deeply competitive environment. In addition, his world view will be challenged by his unconventional girl-cousin Epiny; and by the bizarre dreams which visit him at night. And then, on Dark Evening, the circus comes to Old Thares, bringing with it the first Specks Nevare has ever seen…/ ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jonathan Barlow. Empire Day: New England, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 369min
New York - July 1976 - in a world in which New England remains the sparkling jewel in the crown of the British Empire. It is the day before Empire Day - July 4 - the day each year when the British Empire marks the brutal crushing of the rebellion dignified by the treachery of the 56 delegates to the Continental Congress who were so foolhardy as to sign the infamous Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia on that day of infamy in 1776.It is nearly 200 years since George Washington was killed and his Continental Army was destroyed in the Battle of Long Island, and now New England, that most quintessentially loyal and "English" imperial fiefdom - at least in the original, or "First 13" colonies - is about to celebrate its devotion to the Crown and the Old Country, of which it still views, in the main, as the "mother country".Yet all is not roses. Since 1776, in a world of empires, the British Empire has grown and prospered until now, it stands alone as the ultimate arbiter of global war and peace. The Royal Navy has enforced the global Pax Britannia for more than a century since the World War of the 1860s established a lasting but increasingly tenuous "peace" between the great powers.Nonetheless, while elsewhere the empire may be creaking at the seams, struggling to come to terms with a growing desire for self-determination, thus far, the Pax Britannica has survived - buttressed by the commercial and industrial powerhouse of New England stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific Northwest - intact for all that barely a year goes by without the outbreak of another small, colonial war somewhere....This said, the British "Imperial System" remains the envy of its friends and enemies alike, and nowhere has it been so successful as in North America, where peace and prosperity has ruled in the vast Canadian dominions and the 29 old and recent colonies of the Commonwealth of New England for the best part of two centuries./p ungekürzt. Last Chance Mail Order Bride: Violet's Cowboy: Westward Wanted, Book 4 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 395min
It was not Violet Gladstone's idea to become a mail order bride. She felt it was foolhardy for a woman to leave everything behind to marry a man she had never met. However, when her greedy boyfriend, Ned, jilted her for a rich woman, her friend convinced her to answer an ad. Soon, she was exchanging letters with a nice widower who wanted to wed her. For months, they wrote to each other. All his letters were charming, except the last one. It contained an ultimatum: marry him now or never. He could wait no longer. She wrote back that she would come right away, but she did not. Instead, when the time came, she turned in her ticket to Texas and posted an apologetic letter to the widower breaking off their engagement. When Ned heard Violet stayed, he accused her of holding a torch for him and offered to make her his mistress. Violet scoffed at his lewd offer and his vile conceit. In a flash, he was in her face, pointing out that a strong-willed 27-year-old servant was too old, too poor, and too disagreeable to find a husband in man-starved postwar Georgia. He predicted she would live out her life, a spinster dwelling in the servants' quarters while she pined away for what might have been. That was all it took for her to pen another letter asking the widower to forgive her fickleness, and informing him she was on her way. There was no way Ned was going to ruin her dreams. She left on the very next stagecoach bound for Texas. Her fury kept her doubts and fears at bay for some time, but when the road got rough as they traveled farther and farther into the frontier, she regretted leaving Atlanta. When she really thought about it, being a spinster seemed like a pleasant carefree lifestyle and the servants' quarters a safe haven. Her rationalization was for naught; it was too late to turn back. Certain she had left the frying pan for the fire, she stared out the window of the stagecoach as it rattled down the bumpy dirt road heading to her uncertain future. / ungekürzt. Language: English.
