Preview from The Room: "At the end of the street, just far away enough from where the body of a woman lay like a discarded rag, and where a police cordon stemmed the tide of a curious crowd, a Birmingham News Today channel van was parked up. The back doors were wide open, giving way to the strain of stacked wires and cable spools. Burrowed deep in this mess of snaking technology, a makeshift desk was the only clear space; a laptop sat on the plywood, glowing white against the night's sky." --------------------- More information on The Room: A reporter watches as a second body falls from the window of a place called mysteriously known only as "The Room". But as he looks at the fallen mess, he realises that both of the bodies shouldn't be there. Helpful Plants: Learn What Plants Can Purify Indoor Air and Which Plants Are Mosquito Repellent , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 42min
In a world where chemicals and synthetics have become the answer to all the problems, man sometimes turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to the harm that these chemicals and synthetics are causing to us to the name of solving problems. The repercussion are usually not immediate, making it easier to forget or ignore. But for those of you out there who still believes that nature has the answer to all our problems, know that going natural is the best option all around. And for those of you who have become dependent on man-made products, think twice on the money and health you are wasting. As you listen to this book, you will realize how plants can be a better replacement for artificial products, and it will cost just a fraction of what you are currently spending. This book consists of two sections. The first part is about how you can make use of plants to help you purify the air in your home or office. What you do not realize is that regular products we use at home or in the office create and release contaminants. Common sources are electronic equipment, carpets, plastic products, glues and adhesives, heating equipment like heaters, chimneys, fireplaces, paints, pressed-wood products like hardwood, plywood, paneling, particle boards, and furniture fabrics to mention a few. The common solution would be to bring in another equipment like an air purifier. But instead you could use various plants to do the purifying job, and it will cost you much less while being a positive for your health too. The second part addresses the common problem of mosquito bites, which bring diseases which can become serious. Mosquitoes seem to be everywhere you imagine - homes, of course, yards where your kids play, hiking trips, camping sites, and everywhere else. The most common solution is carried spray cans with a strong pungent smell that results in you inhaling the chemicals frequently. Or trips will call for creams to apply on the skin which again are laden with chemicals. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Judy Rounda. Palace Troubadour
Palace Troubadour, Debu's acclaimed fifth offering, is a musical feast straight from the Royal Court! This 15-song album reflects Debu's versatility and international appeal, featuring songs in English, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Indonesian and Chinese. "DEBU's sound is a heady mix of Middle Eastern strings, thumping drums, flutes, violins, a harp and other Indonesian instruments picked up during the band's travels through this vast archipelago." (AP Jakarta) DEBU PROFILE AND HISTORY DEBU fuses East and West, traditional and contemporary, acoustic and electric. This award-winning world music ensemble is known for playing anything from funk fusion to classical Turkish, then blending these various styles and rhythms to create something new and exciting. DEBU's percussion section consists of Indian, Peruvian, Persian, Arabic, Turkish and Western drums. Add violins, Turkish baglama, oud, Iranian santur, Middle Eastern qanun, acoustic guitar, keyboard and a 6-string bass, and the result is a mini world music orchestra. It is only fitting that this diverse and talented group also sings in nine different languages. DEBU's inspirational multilingual lyrics, written by Shaykh Fattaah, convey the message inherent in the shaykh's Sufi poetry of universal love of the one True Love. Most of DEBU's music is composed by Mustafa Daood, who is also their lead vocalist and arranger. Currently residing in Jakarta, DEBU has topped the charts in Indonesia since the band formed in 2000. DEBU's first album Mabuk Cinta (Drunk with Love), released in 2003, achieved instant success with it's hit single "Cinta Saja," played on MTV Asia daily. The next year, DEBU captured the attention of MTV Asia and worldwide Link TV with "Mazhab Cinta," from their second album Makin Mabuk (Even More Drunk). DEBU soon learned the ropes in the recording studio and decided to build their own studio in Jakarta, where they have produced, mixed and mastered their next five albums. These include three Indonesian albums - Nyawa dan Cinta (The Soul and Love), Gubahan Pecinta (A Travel Guide) and Dianggap Gila (Mad?), a Turkish album entitled Hep Beraber (Let's Say It Together), and their Persian album Soorinaas (A Celebration). Countless performances in a variety of settings, from intimate gatherings to corporate galas, and many television appearances (including several award-winning series featuring DEBU's poetry and music, relief benefits and daily Ramadan specials) have made DEBU famous throughout Indonesia. DEBU's music has attracted global attention - live, through album and digital distribution, and on the internet. DEBU has toured Indonesia, Malaysia (including participation in the renown Rainforest World Music Festival in Borneo), Turkey, Singapore, Iran and Canada. They continue to be invited to events worldwide and are currently working on new releases in English, Spanish, Arabic and Indonesian. 'They have as much fun as Natasha Atlas. They're as suave as Cheb Mami. They're as fresh-faced and sincere as any of the Sami Yusufs and Dawud Wharnsby Alis of the modern Islamic music scene, and they're about to take the Muslim West by storm, a dust storm, in fact. 'DEBU' - which means 'dust' in Malay and Indonesian - has already gone gold in the Archipelago.' Isla Rosser-Owen, Emel Magazine 'The songs DEBU sings - in Indonesian, Turkish, English and Arabic - are mostly about love and peace, and the band members exude goodwill and equanimity. They clearly revel in the opportunity to reach more and more people through their music.' David Kennedy, Jakarta Post 'DEBU's popularity rose quite a few degrees higher at the Rainforest World Music Festival this year, and although many in the audience knew them as stars already, they easily won a large new following.' Randy Raine-Reusch, Artistic Director, Rainforest World Music Festival Music from the heart, to the heart! BAND MEMBERS AND THEIR INSTRUMENTS Kumayl Mustafa Daood Born: July 9, 1981 Place of Birth: Oregon, USA Position: Composer, Arranger, Lead Vocalist, Oud, Glama and Harmonium Mustafa is the musical director and arranger of all of DEBU's music. As he is proficient on many different instruments, it is not uncommon for Mustafa to single-handedly create a demo song in the studio using most of DEBU's pieces. During a live performance, however, he generally plays up to three instruments: Oud: Also known as the lute, this round-bodied instrument is the guitar of the Middle East. It is said to be the grandfather of the guitar. Mustafa uses a Turkish oud, an Egyptian oud and an electric oud that he had custom-made in Indonesia. Glama: This Turkish long-necked lute, also known by some as the saz, is commonly used in central Asia, the Near East and the eastern Mediterranean. Harmonium: Also known as peti or baja, the harmonium is a European instrument that was introduced into India in the 19th century. It is a small organ that has bellows and is pumped by hand through free reeds to produce sound. A lever at the base of the harmonium can adjust it's scale. The keys and their intervals are the same as that of a piano. Muhammad Saleem Born: December 15, 1986 Place of Birth: Oregon, USA Position: Wind Instruments, Vocalist Although Saleem's main role in DEBU is playing wind instruments, he occasionally plays percussive instruments like the Arabian tambourine (riq). Saleem does not limit himself to one specific wind instrument. He has a large collection from around the world. Some of his favorites include: Turkish Ney: This reed flute is one of the most commonly used instruments in Turkish classical music. It has six holes on the top and one on the back, which is covered by the thumb. Sound is produced by blowing on the rim of the ney. Sundanese Flute: This bamboo flute is used in traditional Sundanese music from Indonesia. It's scale is not Western, but rather a traditional Sundanese scale. It has 6 holes and is blown from the top. Fife: Originally found in medieval Europe, this high-pitched flute is held at the side and blown from the top. Like many flutes it uses a standard 6-hole system. Though generally played in a 2-octave range, it can be played up to 3 octaves. Daood Abdullah Born: September 28, 1988 Place of Birth: Texas, USA Position: Drummer and Percussionist Daood mainly plays the darbuka, drumset and cajon. He is, however, proficient on many other percussion instruments like the Persian daf and tombak. Daood is known for his unique playing style. He takes techniques used on various instruments, such as the flutter of the flamenco guitarist, and incorporates them into his playing. The combination of playing the drum set and the handheld darbuka at the same time is another one of his distinctive talents. He has studied music and played percussion with great musicians from around the world like Gilang Ramadan, Tanmoy Bose, Dwiki Darmawan, Sadao Wantanab, Bilen Isiktas, Onur Nar, Yuyun George and Kousik Dutta. Darbuka: Known by many names (such as the dumbek, goblet drum and chalice drum), the darbuka is played in many Middle Eastern countries. It has a thin head that can be made of skin, plastic or even fiberglass. The middle of the head is hit with the hand to produce a low "DUM" sound and the rim is hit for the higher "TEK" sound. Daood uses an Egyptian darbuka, although he favors the Turkish style of playing. Cajon: This Afro-Peruvian percussion instrument is a wooden box with a hole cut out of the back. The player sits on the box and hits the face of it, usually made of plywood, with his hands. Drum Set: This western instrument is a combination of drums and percussive instruments collected and set up around the drummer. It is played using drumsticks and foot pedals. Daood personally prefers to have double foot pedals on his kick drum and he never performs without using his Mapex snare. He studied with the u.s. poet laureate and a post-post-modern Jungian analyst, was a scuba diver, a woodworker, a park ranger, street performer, painter, record-store clerk, worm-farmer, antiques dealer, and ink salesman. He lives in California with his partner and their 2 daughters. Some notes on the songs .... Oregon. I was 20 years old when I met a self-proclaimed wise-man on the Oregon coast. My short and wild stay with him was the beginning of this song, something I originally conceived as an allegory. The old wise-man taught a blend of judeo-christian mysticism blended with astrology and numerology, and he had a technique of opening up the body's energy flow that involved something almost unspeakable here. Needless to say, after my energy flow had been sprung loose, I began to see the world in a different way, hence the killing of the old, beginning the new theme. Young Love. I was living in a 1978 Ford Club Wagon named Charley (named after John Steinbeck's poodle). I was parked in New Orleans, hanging out in Jackson Square. A young guy with 'FUCK YOU' tattooed on his knuckles (he said he did it in jail) had a 15 year-old girlfriend who said she'd run away from suburban Minneapolis. The 2 of them, along with a wandering alcoholic named Papa Smurf, rode with me in my van down to Key West. They panhandled for gas money along the way, and I provided a case of Keystone Light. Eventually the 2 kids were run out of town by other panhandlers for agreeing to be interviewed by the local paper, and saying how easy it was to get money from the tourists. The last time I saw Papa Smurf he was passed out in a flower bed next to the sidewalk. Blue on Yellow. I was falling in love, again, with a woman who wasn't the woman I was living with. The images come from the rootless feeling you get when you're on the verge of shunning the responsibility you once chose to shoulder. I'd moved to Newmarket, NH and was living with Jeremy Hill, a great bass player, and had a nice little room where I could stay up late and record. A friend of Jeremy's, a trumpet player, was in from out of town, and I played him my first recording of this song at 3 in the morning. Waltz for Paul. D.H. Lawrence's short story, 'The Rockinghorse Winner,' was the inspiration for this song. I was living near the seacoast of New Hampshire in a town called Barrington, in a cabin on the property of what once was a catholic summer camp. The landlords had converted the church into a house. I lived with 3 roommates in a little cabin where the priests would live during the summer months. It was poorly insulated and we had a couple cords of terrible green wood. There was a cat named Buddy who was allergic to his own fur, and in my room, on the wall, was the impression of a crucifix where the sun hadn't faded the wood paneling. That's Why. I finished this one in the Barrington cabin as well. It was an attempt to honestly convey my most despondent self. The sound and visual artist, M. Deragon (The Great Invisibles), was living in the room across the hall, and I would hear him doing yoga grunts in his room early in the morning before going out to his technical writing job. I was also taking poetry at the U of New Hampshire with the pretty decent poet, Charles Simic. Just what these things have to do with this song, I'm not sure. Maybe being surrounded by interesting people is impetus to push your creative self a little further than it's gone before. Michael was an inspiration in my poetry and my four-track endeavors, and he turned me on to some great musicians like Stephen Meritt and Will Oldham. He'd luckily blown most of his student loan money on a great CD collection, and I worked my way through it like a Bible while Buddy the Cat puked up fur-balls. Taking my Time. My friend, Jess Klingberg, an unusually talented musician and writer, said that this song was archetypal, and I've tried to figure out what he meant by this. The best I can figure is that it captures a mood and a desire that has always, and always will, exist along the continuum of time - the emotional state of limbo, where you're waiting for something to fall into place, and trying to feel right about the natural progression of things. Jess also suggested I sing this song to my boss at the woodshop every time he asks me to do something a little more quickly. Looking for You. A song by Townes van Zandt. Timeline. I was living in San Diego, getting ready to hitchhike down the Baja, reading Henry Miller and Charles Bukowski, taking jogs through rattlesnake canyons with a black lab named Abbey, and somehow this song came out of it all. My Life. Staying in a hotel in Guadalajara, drifting in Mexico loosely following the steps of DH Lawrence and Frieda, stung by themes of mystical connections, unlikely love, the dark shadow of the industrialized world, romantic involvement with nature, self, and sensual instinct. I first played it for a sculptor named Tom on the rooftop of our hotel.- Shop: odax

Music with Passion
Short Biography: Desmond Ivey I am a native of beautiful Caribbean Island Jamaica W.I. I am self taught to play the Guitar, after experimenting and made my first Guitar, because I couldn't afford to purchase one from a music store. The Guitar body was made from plywood, the guitar neck from cedar wood. The keys were also made from cedar wood (pegs) The guitar would not stay tuned because the pegs kept unwinding, therefore, I had to keep a bottle of water to keep the keys wet. When cedar wood is wet it expands, and keep the pegs from unwinding. I use regular wire for strings therefore (you know) the sound was unpleasant but Hey, that's my Guitar. While banging on it, I learn to play Rhythms and keep good timing. I would take it with me every where I go, to make a long story short, after about a year or two I found A shop where I could buy the guitar keys, strings, and the Fret wire and guitar picks (I usually made my picks from plastic bottles, of different thickness) The frets were placed at equal distance and the Guitar action was very hard. (but it strengthen my fingers) After seeing a real guitar up close, I examine it carefully and build my first real Guitar. I suddenly became known, not only as a Guitar player, but a guitar builder as well. After drawing a diagram of the Guitar keyboard, and naming all the notes, a few years later when I bought my first Mel Bay Guitar Book, and saw the same diagram exactly like I drew it years earlier, I was in a state of shock, I felt like my head was expanding. I thought I had some Psychic ability, abviously I was just on the right track...long story. I study Music Rudiments and Theory and accomplished the Graded test examination, which was offered by The Royal School In England. I also accomplished the Jamaica School Certificate Examination (J.S.C.E.), which Include English Language, Mathematics, Health Science, General Science A., General Science B, Civics, History, Biology and Bible knowledge. I taught these academics subjects in the Public All age School For two years before I was accepted at the Jamaica School Of Music, where I study music and 'School Music Teaching'. Lastly, I taught music at the 'Holy Childhood High School' in Kingston, and the 'Oberlin High School', In St. Andrew where I was born. I played Guitar Duets with my classmates and also with the School's music ensemble. It was really a lot of fun for me, I was also featured on the cover of the School's first, 'School Magazine'. Then I was discovered by Professor Rex Nettleford (who was the Minister of culture Affairs in Jamaica at that time, 1979) he was also the director of the company called the NDTC (National Dance Theater Company) He needed someone who knew the 'Spanish Romance' for Guitar and was able to play it live at the theater, instead of using the recorded version. The piece was choreographed beautifully for a very talented dancing couple, which I enjoyed playing for. The performance was seasonal, and was held at the 'Little Theater' in New Kingston Jamaica. I travel with the NDTC company, to New York City, in November 1980. We Performed at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music (BAM) and the John Jay School Of Criminal Justice in Manhattan. I reside in NYC since then working outside the music business trying to make ends meet. No one knew in NYC that I know how to play an instrument, but music is always my first love, I enjoy playing the guitar for everyone, even on the Air Jamaican Airline during my 3 & 1/2hr. Flight to NYC. USA I wanted to learn more about the Guitar, so I answered an Add, offering Guitar Lessons for All Levels. I was told to bring a note book and my Guitar. I scheduled my first lesson, when I arrived the teacher asked me to play so he would know my level of playing. I played the same selection,'Spanish Romance' for the guitar that I mentioned above, The teacher stared at me as if he saw a ghost, and said I'm sorry I can't help you, your playing is too advanced, Everybody I told this Story to, had to laugh, it's funny, and they said I should have gone to The Juilliard School. Of Music, and I took their advice. I enrolled in the evening division because I had to work. The School. Is Great and I also had a great teacher! 'Dante Rosati' who show me the real playing principles, and the tremolo techniques which you will hear in my CD recordings. I could tell you about my 30yrs+ experience with concerts, TV. Radio and family in Jamaica W.I., but time and space won't allow this. I played all the instruments on all my recordings, and I hope you'll enjoy it. Bye for now. I hope we'll meet one day, somewhere, in the music world. Love, Desmond Ivey.- Shop: odax
