Silver Mine: Takhini Wolves, Book 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 451min, (USK 18)
If a tree falls in the forest, duck.... Life in isolation is the safest place for Chase Johnson, a crossbreed who doesn't know which form he'll assume next - cougar or wolf. Once a year his unelected position as spokesman for the Yukon outcasts forces him to visit civilization. This time he runs across someone unexpected. She's not his mate, but she pushes all the right buttons. It's taken years for Shelley Bradley to gather the courage to return to her home pack. In spite of being the lowest of the low - a shifter who can't shift - she's determined to make a place for herself as the Whitehorse locals' new vet-slash-doctor. There's definite electricity between her and Chase, but sex with fellow shifters, and the inherent mind games, got old a long time ago. Ignoring him seems best. When he shows up at her office with a wound that won't heal, she's stuck - yet drawn to solve this medical mystery. As they journey deep into outcast territory in search of answers, their powerful sexual attraction crumbles her resistance. But time is of the essence. If a cure can't be found before his human and cougar succumb to his injury, he - and others like him - will die. Warning: Contains a silver-tongued, hairy-chested, lean-muscled alpha who's got what it takes to lead in the wilderness and in the bedroom. Yeah, I know...not really much of a deterrent, is it? Throw in continuing territorial wars and a domestic cat. Stir and enjoy the chaos. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Madison Vaughn. First Light , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 489min
A moving story of love, family, and survival against all odds from beloved entrepreneur and reality TV star Bill Rancic. A father from Chicago takes a road trip to the city of Whitehorse, in Yukon Territory, with his wife and son. During the car ride, they reveal to the boy their harrowing experience surviving a horrific plane crash in the wilderness 10 years before, which is how the boy, in fact, came to be born. Set amid the deep, wild woods of the Yukon, First Light tells the story of Daniel Albrecht and Kerry Egan, young lovers leaving a work trip in Alaska to plan their wedding back home in Chicago. Not long into their trip, both engines of their plane catch fire and send them careening into a mountainside in the middle of a terrible snowstorm. Kerry is seriously injured in the accident, and it soon becomes clear that search-and-rescue teams aren't going to find the survivors in time to save her. Daniel - the one person with survival experience amid the passengers - makes the courageous decision to find help and bring it back to the rest of the passengers, hoping against hope he might save the woman he loves. He leaves Kerry in the care of their coworker, Phil Velez, himself seriously injured in the crash, and takes off into the woods to find a town, a house with a telephone, a road. Something. But Daniel's choices are made all the more difficult by the presence of his boss, a stubborn man more interested in results than taking care of people. Only one man will come out of their trek alive, but it still may not be in time to save Kerry and the others back at the crash site, slowly dying from their injuries. As the parents' story draws to a close, the truth about the boy's life, and the identity of his father, will at last be revealed. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kaleo Griffith, Julia Whelan. The Collected Best of Robert Service , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 81min
This new audiobook features a collection of Service's very best and most beloved verses from his time living in and writing about the Klondike.A rover in his youth, Robert Service ended up settling down as a banker in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, in the early part of the century. There, he wrote and recited the crowd-favorite ballads such as "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee", eventually releasing a volume of his work entitled Songs of a Sourdough. He would later transfer with the bank to Dawson City, where he quickly realized his poems had become a great success. He retired from the bank and moved into a two-room cabin on Eighth Avenue, where he committed to writing full-time and produced a novel and two additional volumes of verse about life in the Klondike. He said good-bye to his little cabin in Dawson in 1912, and though he was never able to return, he kept the Yukon very dear to his heart. He continued to write about the First World War, life in Paris, and his time in the Yukon up until his death in 1958 at the age of 84. The cabin still stands in its original location in Dawson City. It is open to visitors in the summer months, where recitations of his work have occurred regularly on the front lawn since 1917.Verses included in this audiobook:"The Spell of the Yukon""The Shooting of Dan McGrew""The Cremation of Sam McGee""The Ballad of Blasphemous Bill""The Men That Don't Fit In""The Trail of 98""The Call of the Wild""The Rhyme of the Remittance Man""At Thirty-Five""The Ballad of Hard-Luck Henry""I'm Scared of It All""A Rolling Stone""The Law of the Yukon""The Song of the Mouth-Organ""The Prospector""Bill the Bomber""The Song of the Wage-Slave""Goodbye Little Cabin" ungekürzt. To the River: Losing My Brother , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 317min
Winner of the Governor General's Literary Award for NonfictionAn eloquent and haunting exploration of suicide in which one of Canada's most gifted writers attempts to understand why his brother took his own life. Which leads him to another powerful question: Why are boomers killing themselves at a far greater rate than the Silent Generation before them or the generations that have followed? In the spring of 2006, Don Gillmor traveled to Whitehorse to reconstruct the last days of his brother, David, whose truck and cowboy hat were found at the edge of the Yukon River just outside of town the previous December. David's family, his second wife, and his friends had different theories about his disappearance. Some thought David had run away; some thought he'd met with foul play; but most believed that David, a talented musician who at the age of 48 was about to give up the night life for a day job, had intentionally walked into the water. Just as Don was about to paddle the river looking for traces, David's body was found, six months after he'd gone into the river. And Don's canoe trip turned into an act of remembrance and mourning. At least David could now be laid to rest. But there was no rest for his survivors. As his brother writes, "When people die of suicide, one of the things they leave behind is suicide itself. It becomes a country. At first I was a visitor, but eventually I became a citizen." In this tender, probing, surprising work, Don Gillmor brings back news from that country for all of us who wonder why people kill themselves. And why, for the first time, it's not the teenaged or the elderly who have the highest suicide rate, but the middle aged. Especially men. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Michael Riley. Untamed: A Three Book Box Set , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 608min
The men of the Marsh family have spent their lives riding hard, in and out of the saddle. None of them has any plans on settling down. Falling in love just isn't for them. Or so they thought. Book one: Feels Like the First Time When Clint Marsh pulls a woman from an overturned semi on a county road in Florida, he expects only to do a good deed then get back on his motorcycle and head home. The woman turns out to be Lily Ridenger, his first love, and the one woman who has the ability to turn his thoughts to sin with a single look. She's in need of a place to stay and he has room to spare. So what if there are still unresolved feelings? Chances are they'll hook up, have sex hot enough to start a fire, and go their separate ways. At least that's what Clint thought.... He thought wrong. Book two: When You Least Expect It Cam Marsh figured he was following in his older brother Colton's footsteps. A confirmed bachelor. Not that he had anything against settling down. He'd just never met a woman he wanted to settle down with. Then out of the blue the first girl he ever loved shows up next door. Ellie Whitehorse has inherited her father's ranch, such as it is, and seeing her brings back feelings he'd all but forgotten, along with inspiring some new ones. Book three: Colton's Memory When Colton Marsh gets a call about a classic car that's broken down near the belly dancing school run by his best friend's mother, he figures he'll get the car up and running, collect his pay, and then head on back to his ranch. Wrong. Memory Wells lights a fire of lust inside him stronger than anything he’s ever experienced, and she makes it quite clear that she’s as hot for him as he is for her. ungekürzt.
