    "Dreaming", das erste Michael Rother-Studioalbum seit "Remember (The Great Adventure)" 2004, ist eine kleine Sensation, zumal er seitdem nur noch Soundtracks und Remixes aufnahm. Doch der Lockdown im Frühjahr 2020 änderte seine Pläne. Es gab eine Reihe von unfertigen Stücken aus den "Remember"-Sessions zu entwickeln, zu denen Rothers Freund Thomas Beckmann ursprünglich einige Co-Mixe und elektronische Beats beigesteuert hatte: "Ich hatte eine Goldgrube an Ideen, etwa 75 Skizzen, und ich wusste, dass da einige Edelsteine drin waren". Umso erstaunlicher, dass "Dreaming" nun ganz anders klingt als sein Vorgänger. Kam "Remember" ohne Gitarre aus, sind die neuen Stücke förmlich auf Gitarren gebettet: Melodien, die an "Flammende Herzen" erinnern, EBow-Drones, die an "Katzenmusik" denken lassen, knackige Rhythmus-Parts, die an die experimentelleren Harmonia-Momente anknüpfen, und nicht zuletzt ein Nicken Richtung Brian Eno bei "Fierce Wind Blowing". Die meisten Gitarren auf "Dreaming" wurden in einem Take aufgenommen. Der Gesang von Sophie Joiner dagegen war derselbe - leicht entrückt, entspannt und utterly human - steht er im schroffen Gegensatz zur strengen Sequenzierung der Stücke, die ihre Worte und Rothers Stratocaster begleitet. "Ihre Stimme hat mich immer umgehauen", sagt Rother. "Das tut sie bis heute."
