Burn Boston Burn is an astounding true crime narration. A conspiracy of nine men, including three Boston cops and a Boston firefighter, burned Boston and surrounding communities in the early 1980s due to tax-cutting measures that caused layoffs of hundreds of police and firefighters. Over two years, these fire buffs-turned-arsonists torched 264 buildings, causing millions of dollars in damages and hundreds of injuries. The city was ablaze with nightly fires, sirens wailing through the streets, and people too afraid to sleep. This book interweaves the activities of the arsonists with those of the investigators, the firefighters, and the citizens of the area. Listeners will shake their heads in disbelief at the brazen and wanton actions of these political terrorists. The author Wayne Miller, now a retired ATF special agent, lived this case for three years. A TV cameraman helped break the case when one of the cops waved his gun in the air at a massive fire as if he were at a rodeo. The case included a stolen police car dumped in Boston Harbor and a threat letter consisting of cut-out letters and plans to murder witnesses. After the Boston police officer/arsonist became a witness, they utilized 17 undercover contacts to perfect a federal case. Agent Miller spent innumerable hours with those perpetrators who became Government witnesses. An arsonist’s journal provided the basis for chilling insights into their words, actions, and thoughts. Mr. Miller now has regular contact with that arsonist who has provided additional information in support of the book. Every firefighter who has heard of the story wants to read or listen about it. Also, anyone interested in true crime, investigative procedures, the inner workings of a criminal conspiracy, and fires would have strong interests in this book. The case was covered by national media in the early to mid 1980s. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Chris Monteiro. In January 2008, Graham Naismith, 37-year-old IT consultant and former police detective, and his wife Eirene, aged 38 and a former teacher, spontaneously, and with no prior experience whatsoever, decided to embark on a 30,000 mile drive to Australia with their three daughters aged one, four, and six. Having previously sold their house in anticipation of a drop in the housing market and with Graham's job at the infamous ID Cards Scheme looking precarious, the climate was right. So, with the decision made and the trip endorsed by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Lance Armstrong, and not forgetting The Hairy Bikers, four months of intensive planning and preparation followed. A suitable four-wheel drive vehicle was bought and built to expedition standards and the relentless quest for sponsorship commenced. Satellite phones, emergency beacons, needles, drips, medicines, vaccinations galore, mountains of equipment, and bureaucracy were all sourced, and courses in vehicle repair, remote emergency first aid, and Russian were embarked on before they departed. On May 1, 2008, they waved goodbye to their friends, and within 15 minutes heard their first “Are we nearly there yet, Dad?”. This proved to be a constant as they traveled through 19 countries including Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, and onto South East Asia before driving the entire circumference of Australia. As they traveled, the global economy went into meltdown. The book charts, in diary form, a journey through desert and jungle, from Auschwitz to the Beijing Olympics and from opulence to third-world poverty. The family encountered terrorist bombings, earthquakes, blood clots, gun-toting soldiers, corrupt policemen, covert tracking devices, AK-47 carrying locals, an attempted car-jacking, landslides, mines, convicted drug dealers at the Bangkok Hilton, lice, leeches, ghosts, scorpions, snakes, and sharks, not to mention their car being confiscated in China, blowing up in Thailand, ungekürzt. All you ever hear about now is that college is the time of your life when you are supposed to experience new and amazing things. That is especially supposed to be true when it comes to partying and sexual experiences. It never was the case for me, though. No, I was going to be that student who focused completely on my studies almost all the time before graduating early and laughing at all the girls who partied instead of working hard. Then I met Lizzy. She is easily the most charismatic person I have ever met. Beautiful, as well. And she showed me the most amazing night of my life that I will not soon forget. Warning: This audiobook contains very explicit sex including first time lesbian sex, sex in public, oral sex, college student sex, sex with study partner, girl on girl sex, and more. Only mature adults who won't find graphic sexual content offensive should listen to this story. Here is a preview: "Come right in," she said, "The game awaits." "Lizzy," I said skeptically. "What are you doing?" "Don't worry," she smiled as she waved me inside the rest of the way. "You'll like it because it involves studying and I'll like it because it will be wild fun. Everybody wins so relax would you? Come on and lay your stuff down. Take your shoes off too. What are you dressed up for anyway?" I looked down at my t-shirt, blue jeans, and socks and shoes and back up at her. She wore a long t-shirt that looked like a sleep shirt and I couldn't see anything else. I smiled, "Well, I couldn't very well drive in my skivvies Lizzy. What's the game tonight? I'm ready to study! What do you have for me?" ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sabrina Carleton. After an attempt on their lives, two wealthy brothers search for true love, only to discover their soulmates aren’t the women they thought she would be. The year is 1824. The place is New Orléans, then considered the largest city in the South. The flag of France once waved above the city’s Square, but now, the American flag has been lifted for all to see. In this city dwell the families who built it, the people who call themselves Creoles. Most of them can't speak English and have made vows that until their eyes are closed by death, the city of their birth will always be a distant land that belongs to France. Living among these families are the wealthiest Creoles of them all: the Jennings, better known as the Devils in Nouvelle-Orléans. The family’s patriarch, Will, and his two sons, Pierre and Julien, have never lived by anyone’s standards, but those that have been in their family for many years. Their most reputable plantation, Ashleywood, is known secretly among slaves near and far as "Slaab Heaben". And many slaves risk their lives to reach it rather than the North. But that’s not only what this story is all about. It’s about the wealthy family that resides in the Big House on the Ashleywood plantation that consists of men unafraid to pull the trigger on their enemy. It is about loyalty among those you learn to trust most, the Creole culture as it then existed, and the people of New Orleans trying desperately to hold on to that culture after Americans have arrived and try just as hard to change it. It’s about a broken family, failed marriages, extramarital affairs, love, and also what a father and two sons will go through to get it. It’s about protecting your children and the people you love when the enemy looks just like you. And forgiveness, and how it can heal a past that many wouldn’t want to remember. And last but not the least, it’s about a brothel madam who dabbles with tarot cards...for, it is this woman who tells ungekürzt. Rocket! is the fourth in a series of near-future sci-fi/thrillers whose young heroine Ell Donsaii has a nerve mutation. This mutation’s rendered her a genius and an athletic phenomenon. In Rocket! she works out the enormous potential of the wormholes she discovered in Lieutenant. Though they only provide small openings through the fifth dimension, these wormholes will prove a tremendous boon to humankind. Feeding fuel to little rockets will let them fly all the way up into space. Excerpt: Excitedly Ell started picking up the components and laying them on the surface of the big table. The happy babble around her quieted as one by one the team members turned to watch her lay out a number of metal tubes. She heard them speculating, “What is it?” “All those tubes. Some kind of plumbing project?” Ell laid a pointed cap at the left end and a conical device at the other. “A rocket?” someone asked. Ell grinned up at them, “Yep, a rocket.” Ben said, “Why a rocket? I thought we were going to replace rockets with instantaneous transfer of materials through ports to the satellites and to the space station?” Ell smiled even more broadly. “Well, first we have to get our ports up to orbit where we want to transfer those materials, right? And before you say we can just send them up on the rockets that already go up there, think about why those rockets are so huge?” She looked around the group. “Right? Because they have to carry so much fuel! For the first part of the mission they’re mostly just launching fuel for the next part of the mission. It’s horribly inefficient!” The group stared at her as they pondered her words. Fred scratched his head. “Are you thinking this little rocket”, he waved at the parts on the table, “because we can port it fuel, could make it all the way to orbit?” Ell waggled her eyebrows, “All the way to the space station!” Eyes widened around the group. Someone said, “Then we could ‘port’ them supplies!” Ell said, ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Laura Bannister. The seal's head bobbed quietly in the still water. It looked around at the brightly lit world around him. He had just surfaced for air after foraging for his food in the undersea world beneath him. He was a large Atlantic seal known as a gray seal. At eight feet in length and over eight pounds, he was surprisingly fast and agile.Wet, grey whiskers dripping from the salty sea protruded from his massive cow-like head. His home, St. Margaret’s Bay, is a quaint coastal bay with lots of islands, beaches, wildlife, and a history closely tied to the sea.Not far away from the seal, on a grassy shore, a shiny yellow kayak sat in the shade of a crab apple tree. It’s yellow color is obscured by dust and fallen leaves. It hadn’t moved since the day it was purchased a decade ago. Near its bow, if one looked carefully enough, the picture of a mermaid was painted. She had once adorned the bows of pirate ships, dangling proudly above the water. Today she was only barely noticeable.Back in the bay, guided by its large whiskers and amazing sense of smell, the seal hung suspended upside down in the clear water. Long strands of kelp swayed like snakes from the seabed around him. A lobster futilely attempted to back itself deeper and deeper into a crevice. However, it soon ended up in the jaws of the hungry seal. The seal seemed to be having a hard time moving today. It’s back throbbed painfully in the cold waters. One fall afternoon, an old man paddling by in his kayak noticed a boy named Shannon quietly sitting on the wharf. He had seen him before but had only waved as he paddled by. Today, however, the old man decided to do something different. Something he just had to do. His wide-brimmed hat sat low over his tanned features. His tired back ached. He pulled his kayak in alongside the dock, laid his paddle across his knees, and took a deep breath. ungekürzt. No one had an inside view of the renaissance of Richard Nixon after Watergate better than the Secret Service agent by his side for 14 years - Michael Endicott. This is a story about politics, history, and power. But, most of all, this is a story about a working-class kid from the south side of Tacoma, Washington, who became a Secret Service agent and traveled the world, building a relationship with one of America’s most controversial presidents, Richard Nixon, and Mrs. Nixon. This is a story about perseverance and friendship - and a story no one else can tell. Not the many presidential biographers and historians, and not even Nixon himself in his many memoirs, ever discussed Nixon the man who longed to rehabilitate his legacy - and how a Secret Service agent became his confidant in reshaping history. Retired Secret Service Agent Michael Endicott spent thousands of hours with Nixon and fills in a vital puzzle piece in history that answers the question: Whatever happened to Richard Nixon when he waved goodbye to the White House, to a flawed presidency, in a nation that wanted to put Watergate behind them? As newly assigned detail leader, Endicott picks up the story after the Nixon’s five years in exile in San Clemente, California, and the statesman’s plan to “get back in the action”, with a move to New York. When Nixon gave up his Secret Service detail - the only President to ever do so - he hired Endicott to be his Chief of Staff, and the two of them changed the course of history as Endicott sneaked Nixon into Moscow for high-level diplomatic talks. He also accompanied the former President to his beloved baseball games at Shea Stadium and arranged family dinners and events. The audiobook portrays Nixon as a father and grandfather, a very private man who eventually enjoyed meeting kids at McDonald’s when he longed to eat inside like a normal person or sign baseball programs when he insisted on sitting in the stands at games instead of in ungekürzt. The dark wood was green and gold - green where the oak trees stood crowded together with misshapen, twisted trunks, red-gold where the great smooth beeches lifted their branching arms to the sky. In between jostled silver birches - olive-tinted fountains which never reached the light-black spruces with little pale candles on each tip - and nut trees smothered to the neck in dense bracken. The bracken was a forest in itself, a curving verdant flood of branches, transparent as water by the path but thick, heavy, secret a foot or two away, where high ferny crests waved above the softly moving ferns, just as the beech tops flaunted above the rest of the wood. The rabbits which crept quietly in and out reared on their hind legs to see who was going by. They pricked their ears and stood erect and then dropped silently on soft paws and disappeared into the close ranks of brown stems when they saw the child. She walked along the rough path, casting fearful glances to right and left. She never ran, even in moments of greatest terror, when things seemed very near, for then they would know she was afraid and close round her. Gossamer stretched across the way from nut bush to bracken frond and clung to her cold cheeks. Spilt acorns and beech mast Iay thick on the ground, green and brown patterns in the upside-down red leaves, which made a carpet. Heavy rains had swept the soil to the lower levels of the path and laid bare the rock in many places. On a sandy patch she saw her own footprint, a little square toe and a horseshoe where the iron heel had sunk. That was in the morning, when all was fresh and fair. It cheered her to see the homely mark, and she stayed a moment to look at it and replace her foot in it, as Robinson Crusoe might have done. A squirrel, rippling along a leafy bough, peered at her and then, finding her so still, ran down the tree trunk and along the ground. Her step was strangely silent, and a close observer would have seen tha ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jilly Bond.
