At-Ma 'City in the Sky' is a studio tour de force from two veterans of the UK music industry, who have created the ultimate wish list in musical and vocal imagination. BIOS: Craig Pruess is an American musician and film composer living in the UK since 1973. His feature film music credits include: 'Bend It Like Beckham', 'Bride & Prejudice', 'What's Cooking?', 'The Mistress of Spices', among others. Also an arranger (Massive Attack, Def Leppard, Bond), conductor, gold and platinum record producer (Sir Cliff Richard, Sheila Walsh - who's first album produced and arranged by Craig was nominated for a Grammy Award), singer (Sacred Chants of Buddha), sound engineer and multi-instrumentalist, Craig has combined his experience of 35 years of yoga and meditation practice (since 1994 as an Art of Living teacher) with his knowledge of African, Western, Indian classical and world music. His Sacred Chants series of CDs are sold worldwide on his own record label, Heaven on Earth Music, which he formed in 1977, with millions of sales in particular in India and Nepal. He has performed for the Dalai Lama in London, and for Prince Charles at a private concert in his home at Highgrove. Craig contributed sitar and Indian sound textures to the Johnny Depp film 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory', the Madonna film, 'The Next Best Thing', the Heather Graham film, 'The Guru', 'Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire', the Warners Bros film, 'A Little Princess', and the new Greta Scacchi film, 'Shoot on Sight'. He has sung in public since the age of 16, and has been an experienced session singer since his teens. In his music and life, he incorporates insights gained from his yogic, sounding and psychotherapeutic practice. Simon Thacker and The Nava Rasa Ensemble is a nine piece virtuoso ensemble innovating on the meeting of Asian and Western cultures. Nada Ananda features the world première recordings of major guitar led works by Shirish Korde, an Indian composer who has forged a compelling and distinctive voice in the West with his native music as a basis, and Nigel Osborne, a great Western composer profoundly influenced by Indian music, for an all star nine piece instrumental ensemble made up of leading performers from both cultures. Shirish's Nada Ananda ['the joy of sound'] concerto for guitar and chamber ensemble, is in three movements. The first movement is in the style of a North Indian Alap and the guitar writing the explores the expressive possibilities and colours of the instrument, combining the ornamentations and figurations of the sitar with the timbre of the classical guitar. The first and the second movement are based on the raga Lalit which, according to Indian music theory, is generally played at daybreak. The third movement, Joy, sees extended cadenzas for the guitar, Indian violin and tabla lead to an explosive climax for the whole ensemble. Nigel's The Birth of Naciketas for guitar concertante is based on an episode in the Upanishads where Naciketa's mother dies in childbirth and his father makes a bargain with Death to save his son's life. The work is based on the ten thaats, or scale patterns, which are considered by many to have been the forerunners of the raags of Indian classical music. The piece's ten sections correspond to the tenthaats in a 24-hour cycle related to the times of day associated with the scale patterns. These ten sections fall into five main movements.
