The follow up to his debut album in 2002, "Cross Contamination" (D-Trash), "Caretaker" is an evolution in the Unitus sound, experimenting further with breakbeats and melody while still preserving that familiar dirty edge. Unitus has struck a balance of deep emotional melodies, while still laying waste to everything in his path with heavy industrial-guitar drones, slower bpm jungle beats and a gritty feel. "Caretaker" is power noise with real power, industrial with an edge, techno without the presets, and breakcore with melody. Brilliant! Unitus Biography Never conceived of as an alter ego, but rather as a container in which his eclectic musical tastes and experiences could be combined, Unitus was constructed by Daniel Ross in Toronto, Canada, during the summer of 2000. Informed as much by the visceral quality of early industrial artists like The Swans, Big Black, and Godflesh as by the detailed production work of later electronic artists like Aphex Twin, and Autechre, Unitus was an ambitious project from the onset. An early three track demo received welcome attention from Canada's own digital hardcore label D-Trash Records, and laid the foundation for the release of "Cross Contamination" in early 2002. A fusion of breakcore, drum & bass, industrial, guitars, and electronics into an unrelenting wall of sound, "Cross Contamination" proved to be an underground success. Having played alongside such artist as Venetian Snares, Merzbow and Heartworm, the Unitus live act is a simultaneous action of laptop beats, live guitar riffs and various distortion pedals and effects boxes. Angesiedelt zwischen Reduktion und Dekoration, Programmierung und Improvisation.Der in Berlin lebende Komponist, Produzent und Sound-Designer Ben Lukas Boysen ist ein neues Mitglied in der Label-Familie von Erased Tapes. Zum Einstand hat er das Album "Spells" mitgebracht. Dieses verbindet die kontrollierbare Welt der Technik mit den oftmals unvorhersehbaren Aspekten der Improvisation, indem es programmierte Klavierstücke mit Live-Instrumenten vereint. Auf gewisse Weise setzt das von Nils Frahm gemischte und gemasterte "Spells" dort an, wo das eher unbekannte Debüt "Gravity" endete. Befreit von einiger Last, öffnet es den Raum für einen leichteren, energetischeren Sound. Die verschachtelten, vermenschlichten Programmierungen - erweitert durch den Schlagzeuger Achim Färber, den Cellisten Anton Peisakhov und die Harfenistin Lara Somogyi, ebenso wie durch eine überlegte Auswahl an Echos, Delays und Kompressoren - wurden eingesetzt, um einen hybriden Klang zu erschaffen, der bewusst Hörgewohnheiten täuschen, in Frage stellen und herausfordern soll.
