Baffled in Boston marks the debut of the most likable - and unlikely - sleuth to come along in years. Burned-out true-crime writer Scotty Scotland has been abandoned by his wife, ordered to give up coffee by his doctor, and according to his latest review, he should give up writing too. He spends his days winning imaginary arguments with his wife, defacing reviews of his novels, and counting flowers on the wallpaper. But when his best friend Molly, a nationally syndicated advice columnist, is murdered, Scotty must get out of his pajamas and into action to find the killer. "Dear Molly, I'm competing with 18,000 preachers, plumbers, writers, shrinks - and a set of quintuplets - to be the new you. If I win the contest, I could solve a lot of problems - and maybe your murder, too. The problem is, between the paper's sleazy management, bitter rival columnists, and the psychos who read your column, I've got more suspects than Walgreen's has Rolaids, and so far, I've only ruled out Ann and Abby. Baffled in Boston, Scotty" ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John Bell. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/055011/bk_acx0_055011_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

In this wickedly funny novel, Robert Ludlum combines the explosive pacing of The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy with a bitingly witty send-up of everything from government bureaucrats and pandering military men to the mob, the law, and organized religion. War hero and infamous ladies’ man General MacKenzie Hawkins is a living legend. His life story has even been sold to Hollywood. But now he stands accused of defacing a historic monument in China’s Forbidden City. Under house arrest in Peking, with a case against him pending in Washington, it looks like the end of Mac’s illustrious career. But he has a plan of his own - and it includes kidnapping the Pope. What’s the ransom? Just one American dollar - for every Catholic in the world. Add to the mix a slew of shady “investors”; Hawkins’ four persuasive, well-endowed ex-wives; and a young lawyer and fellow soldier who wants nothing more than to return to private life - and you’ve got one relentlessly irreverent page-turner. ungekürzt. What does a hungry, pregnant witch do when her whole freaking town goes on a no-carb diet? I'll tell you what. She goes on the sly and conjures up some anchovy-chocolate chunk cookies dipped in hot sauce - that's what. Of course my cheating gets complicated when all of the magic in the world goes on the fritz. To solve that particular wrinkle, I'll have to finally find the source of the lurking evil. Easier said than done. Maybe if I wasn't pregnant and starving, I could deal with the nasty old witch who resides in a gingerbread house. Add in carb-eating fairies who speak French and three rotund familiars who enjoy defacing property with profane graffiti and what you get is almost more trouble than I can handle in my baby-baking condition. I'm still not convinced I won't be giving birth to puppies since the smokin' hot father of my babies is a werewolf, and no one has given me any concrete proof to the contrary. Getting knocked up by the werewolf of my dreams was all kinds of awesome in practice, but the reality of becoming a mother scares me more than Baba Yaga's horrendous 1980's wardrobe. Monstrous decisions with enormous ramifications are best handled with meticulous planning or - in my case - after eating a giant mustard slathered jelly doughnut. Neither of those options is possible at the moment, but since there is no way I'm bringing my children into a magicless world, winging it will just have to work. Wait...was that a contraction I just felt? Goddess help us all. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Stephanie Riggio.
