The Price of Power , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 914min
In this rousing novel, the action sweeps from the Oval Office to a Navy SEAL assault on a remote Indonesian Island, from the court-martial of an admiral to the impeachment hearings of a peacenik President. The President orders the arrest and trial of a battle group commander who, in defiance of a presidential order, led a Congress-authorized attack on terrorists. The angry Speaker of the House retaliates by initiating impeachment proceedings. Jim Dillon, the Speaker's top aide, finds himself defending the admiral in the court-martial and is named number-two prosecutor for the upcoming impeachment trial. Meanwhile, a terrorist invades a U.S.-owned gold mine on an Indonesian island, murdering the American boss, and holding his wife hostage. The price for her life: the release of captured fellow terrorists. Dillon uncovers another forgotten power to the Constitution, the Rules of Capture, to authorize a SEAL-led attack. With a feel for politics that rivals Bob Woodward's, a Scott Turow-like gift for legal drama, and a hard-charging rush of military action that surpasses Tom Clancy, James W. Huston delivers a heart-stopping novel that builds to a riveting final confrontation on Capital Hill. Meanwhile, halfway around the world, the SEALs head for shore in their new Mirage assault boats to finish the job. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Adams Morgan. I Will Open My Mouth in Parables: Taradiddles and Tales of My West Virginia Home , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 338min
I Will Open My Mouth in Parables is a collection of fictional short stories recounting events that take place in or near the small town of Quick, West Virginia. The stories are set in the 1950's and are told in the first person by "Richie Smith." Within each taradiddle you meet the interesting people for whom the story is named – Joshua, the unborn child whose mother is a Disgrace; Johnny, who encounters the Devil's Assistant; Lefty, a prophet of the True Religion; Uncle Ron, who shunned the chance of being a Debonair; and Robby, the Prodigal Peacenik come home. The stories are told so vividly that you may believe you actually were there, that you met these people, and that you lived through the experience. These tales will make you laugh and make you cry, and make you wish you had known the people who appear in the true-to-life parables – if only they had been real. The audio book is narrated by Paul Morella, a prominent Washington, DC, actor, who, for 35 years, has appeared at about every major theatre in the region, as well as in films, and on TV and radio. Paul, a multiple Helen Hayes award nominee, created and presented two highly acclaimed one-person shows – A Passion For Justice: An Encounter with Clarence Darrow and A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas. Film credits include The Pelican Brief, The Replacements, That Night, The Hunley and Diner, and he has had roles in The Wire, Homicide, The Corner and The District. He also starred opposite Julie Harris and James Farentino in All My Sons, and Marsha Mason and Fred Thompson in The Best Man, both for LA Theatre Works. ungekürzt. Language: English. The Faith of Christopher Hitchens: The Restless Soul of the World's Most Notorious Atheist , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 367min
If everyone in the United States had the same qualities of loyalty and care and concern for others that Larry Taunton had, we'd be living in a much better society than we do. (Christopher Hitchens) At the time of his death, Christopher Hitchens was the most notorious atheist in the world. And yet, all was not as it seemed. "Nobody is not a divided self, of course," he once told an interviewer, "but I think it's rather strong in my case." Hitchens was a man of many contradictions: a Marxist in youth who longed for acceptance among the social elites; a peacenik who revered the military; a champion of the Left who was nonetheless pro-life, pro-war-on-terror, and, after 9/11, something of a neocon; and while he railed against God onstage, he maintained meaningful - though largely hidden from public view - friendships with evangelical Christians like Francis Collins, Douglas Wilson, and the author Larry Alex Taunton. In The Faith of Christopher Hitchens, Taunton offers a very personal perspective of one of our most interesting and most misunderstood public figures. Writing with genuine compassion and without compromise, Taunton traces Hitchens' spiritual and intellectual development from his decision as a teenager to reject belief in God to his rise to prominence as one of the so-called "four horsemen" of the new atheism. While Hitchens was, in the minds of many Christians, public enemy number one, away from the lights and the cameras a warm friendship flourished between Hitchens and the author - a friendship that culminated in not one but two lengthy road trips where, after Hitchens' diagnosis of esophageal cancer, they studied the Bible together. The Faith of Christopher Hitchens gives us a candid glimpse into the inner life of this intriguing, sometimes maddening, and unexpectedly vulnerable man. ungekürzt. Language: English. Whererwegoin
We are a family band and 'whererwegoin' pulls together the best of the peacenik music we have written and performed for the last 3+ years. So much has happened since we wrote and started performing Earnest Soldier just before the Iraq war. In retrospect each song, from Extraordinary Rendition to By Blue America's Shore, probably represents our attempt to understand and come to terms with what is happening to our country, to it's ideals and to it's future. We in this family all hope that as a country we will decide to live by the Golden Rule for a while. To folks who have not seen/heard us play before - Jackson a 14 year old multi-instrumentalist plays with his dad a guitar player singer song writer. Together we are looking for a new honest sound. To the folks who have come to the gigs, the people who are on the email list, all the folks who have downloaded the music and those who have used the music at peace and protest rallies thank you for your help, support and encouragement. More music is now available here on the site. If you start downloading have a listen to our first cover Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison, By Blue Congregational Shores with the famous 'Catch as Catch Can Choir' and Love is Alive featuring Vanessa Silva, Emily Vershoor-Kriss and Cici Hunt. Thank you again to all. Enjoy the music and please be in touch - Peace -.- Shop: odax
